i have a 12" kicker comp sub in a sealed box in the boot of my VL it sits as close to the front of the boot as possible to the drivers side but it doesnt seems very bassy, i mean it makes everything rattle but in the car itself it has strong bass but not as much as if ya stick your head in the boot.
i was goin to cut a hole in the box and get a piece of PVC piping and run it from the box upto the back of the seats bolt it to the back of the seat
would this make a difference??
i have
Sony Xplod 4 X45watt Deck
2 X 6 " clarion splits
Kenwood 6X9
12" kicker comp sub
1 X 2 channel 300 watt amp (running 6X9)
1 X 4 channel 1200 watt amp ( running 12 " sub)..
The piping might not be a very good idea if the box is designed to be a sealed box, as cutting into the box and making it a ported enclosure will make it sound worse if it's not designed for that.
This can sound great if the box IS designed to be a ported box. That way, u can port it up through the parcel shelf and the bass will fill in the cabin.
Or, you could probably cut through the parcel shelf and run a 5" port just into the boot.
Cut a hole in your parcel shelf and then place the sub box under it. You can even box around the sub and the hole in the shelf.
don't make the hole to small. try 1 really big one with a simple grillcloth type cover or a number of smaller holes could work also.
im trying to make out how exactly it is positioned, the best positioning for subs in a VL IMO is too point the sub towards the boot(firing backwards )
. What is the actual amp running the sub?
some things to consider are
~seperating to 6x9s from the subs area(they do have an effect on each other so in some cases it is best to seperate them). In an install i have done to a VL, the same happened, and it was his 7x10s , i seperated the 7x10s from the rest of the boot(underneath box, and problem was solved. to see if that affects you, un plug the 6x9s, see if that improves.
~look at your box, make sure it is the right size etc.
~look into the settings on your amp, is it passin through the low pass filter?
after trying all of you avenues, go and see you local car audio installer

Ill second that! From previous experience/experiments i found producing the box so its angled out the boot (firing out the boot lid) works exceptionally well! I punch anyone who puts their sub in a square box and puts the sub up against the back seat! its gotta be the worst spot :? So try redesigning the box a bit, you could even just prop your existing box up put it under the boot lid facing out on an angle and see what you get Holes in your parcel shelf definantly will improve it as well, i cut 3 110mm holes and put ports through (u cant see the ports as i have made a hidden speaker parcel shelf design)
Cheers,
Chris
