Ok. i have done numerous searches regarding cold air induction. but nobody has been able to tell me wether boring a hole through the mudguard is legal. so... i ask a simple yes/no answer... Is the mudguard a sturctural part, and if not...is it legal to cut? keeping in mind i am in NSW.

Yes it is legal according to the insurance company. Me and my mate (jezzar off here) did it today. We drilled a 100mm hole to fit the 100mm pipe going down to the front bar. Dunno about the structural part, but we are from VIC and it has all been sweet - dont know about NSW.

I'm from NSW, and I have heard the oppposite. Everyone I have talked to about it says that Yes it is a structural part, and that if the cops catch you driving around without an engineer's cert: "That'll be 2 points, and a $150 fine thanks sir"

When I crashed my last VL,it had a cold air intake going through the front part under the air filter box,it also had a 3 inch exhaust system. The cop inspected the car to find out the cause of the crash and didn't say anything about the cold air intake.

Damn... who is an authority that would know the answer? RTA, Police...im lost! i couldnt see that a mudguard is a "structural component!" a mudguard is exactly that- to stop mud and water entering the engine bay. anyways... keep your thoughts flowing...! Thanx

as jims said, we did our cold air intake on saturday, but before that i rang everywhere, police, insurance and vic roads. they all said it was ok. my insurance company didnt know what it was till i explained wot it did and then they said it was ok and put it on my policy. but different states have different rules so u might wanna do a few phone calls around. jezz

I have been informed by an engineer it is legal to remove 25% of the inner guard.. i have cold air running straight through that hole with no problems.
