LOL at Petros. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. You can even go Microtech. I bought a MT8 and handcontroller for $650 a coupla years ago.

if you could score a microtech or even autronic for those prices i would most def go for one of them too - you have to do your homework tho mate coz some of them are not direct plug ins and will cost you that bit more -

that one was a direct plug in for a vl, he had spent 4-5k or something. maybe you should dig it out and see if he still has it. he seemed to have trouble getting any interest in it on these forums and performance forums.

wolf 3d would be in your budget and is good computer for the money . friend of mine is auto elect and does a lot of motec etc on 2 litre super tourers and when i quizzed him on what engine management to run he said go the wolf as it doesn,t have as much to offer as motec but most people never use motec to full potential anyway and for the money he says you can,t go past the wolf

The idea behind the good computer is not just data logging but their speed. This is what you pay the money for. Especially with a forced induction motor, you want the computer to keep up with the engine and have enough time to correct things if something turns sour. There are heaps of other reasons like big injector control etc which you get with motec or autronic. P.S> You CAN NOT spend 4-5k on Autronic with just auto tune. This price would include an expensive workshop fitting and dyno tuning it. With enough change left over to reco your cylinder head! MoTeC is a different story, there are so many upgrades available. Like $13000 on an M800 with upgrades isn't too difficult.

Go the new EMS 8860. It is by far better then a LInk or anything else under $2000. It has more imputs, more outputs, can run upto an 8cyl sequentially (both fuel and ign) and comes with all the parts need to do the install for $1700

Another piece of advice. Try to get a 2nd hand top brand ECU if possible, as you can save hundred's there, just as with all high performance part's.

You can get an Autronic SMC for way less than 2k - and they'll crap on anything else mentioned here. Get it with the autotune option, and fit it yourself. I did! You'll never look back.

That is truely a bold statement. the smc is $2000rrp plus more $ for extras. It is however a great ecu, but it does lack some of the more advanced options of its bigger brother the sm2.

I have the SM2 - it has antilag and traction control - otherwise, for a VL - you aint missing anything. The SMC will easily out-do your Wolf, EMS, Link, Haltech - etc. The SM2 can be had new for $2200 inc GST - the SMC is cheaper. Not sure where you're getting your prices - but the SMC is definitely sub 2k. For this money you get the ECU, the software, the loom, a manual, and access to tech support through the dealer. Yes, autotune is extra - as are extra sensors, plugs etc.

One word LINK The advantage of link is that is uses all the factory loom therefor if you get EPA or defect it is easy to swap over and AVO offer this service for free if you buy from them. Link it not used buy that many but is gaining in popularity and has a lot of functions, poeple that have used it that I know or read about dont have a bad thing to say about it. AVO do it for $1500 fitted and tuned, if you dont go for link have look at Wolf and the new EMS, both offer heaps new features and lot less expensive than Motec and Autronic. Go link you wont be disappointed for the money and you even will have $500 to upgrade fuel pump or cam etc.

The rrp was from autronic website. Anyhoo, for ppl interested in comparisons of most of the efi systems available check out the following website. It has a list of each ecu's features. http://www.200sx.org/ecudata.html
