Hi i am having an argument with a mate at the moment over this and i was wondering is there any reason they supercharge such cars as Holden VS instead of turbocharging them?? and which is better a turbo or super charger?? thanx for your help

They superchage them beause Buick make them like this in the USA. I would say (im sure others will disagree) that although turbo is better, it is pretty dumb only putting a single turbo on a V series engine (V6 etc) as to fully utilise the engine you would have to get both exhaust manifolds in on the act and that is a big task to get all that pipework done for a turbo on one side. Twin turbo is the way to go on a V eninge unless you have a lot of room to mount a single turbo in a central location like a WRX has on its boxer engine. Holden V6 is far easier to S/Charge and that is why they do it. They have gotten some huge HP figures out of the old V6 donk in the states though with a blower sitting in place (upgraded of course).

Pete... one of these days when i get some cash to blow on the car i'll get some good hp out of a V6 with a turbo. Twin would be the way to go though.

superchargers are what you put on your lawn mower to cut extra thick grass!

Im guessing it's cause it was probably more cost effective for Holden to go supercharger

Nah Pete is right... its because the buy them out of the box like that from the US Not to mention they'd have to piss a heap of development funding up the wall to make a single turbo V6 work.

other things as well such as low end torque produced for a superchargerd pulling pwer and even highway towning. easier to build cheaper to produce its a win win situation for them really. i heard a Romour of a turbo v6 comming out in next model of commodore but its just a romour so far i belive. but put me down for one of them just in case

Well judging by the popularity of VL Turbo's, a base model family sedan with a turbocharged engine would be a step in the right direction for the next model of Commodore's
