I think Ford have got there ACT together with the release of the BA and 260Kw V8. There goal is to dominate the world of muscle cars. I think they've gone MAD 8O with kilowatts
I think Holden sells more cars due to its advertisments. The last thread was locked due to childish disputes....
I think Ford has gone to alot of effort to improve their engines. Its about time they make use to the "turbo" technology. Nissan have been making use of turbo back as early as the first skylines (early 80s). Most people in here should be aware that most japanese cars in Japan are "Turbo charged". Reason being is less Pollution, and more power for nothing....
Even a 660cc engine is turbo charge with 4WD to give a wopping  47Kw ! The point here is Ford has enlightened Holden to realise that the Holden engines are old and need some new refinement like the BAs - hence Turbo technology is used.
I still think Nissans are King of turbos and it will be sometime until Ford catches up. Ford think they can build a powerful motor by just wacking a turbo and DOHC into their engines.... I think they are wrong... but rather research + design will improve their engine.
Lets hope Ford will continue to develop their BA turbos and Holden will follow with their own turbo.... not RB
BA's have powerful figures but what are the 1/4 mile times ? Does anyone know ?
Until a Hotted up Ford BA can do 8-9sec 1/4 pass we will then repsect the technology just like the RB30ETs have....
Repest must be ernt !!

Ford need a nice high-end performance range. FTR failed, lets see if FPV can come through with the goods.
The new HSV range look k-razy. At first they didn't really tickle my fancy, but now i've seen a few more, they're nice.
I've seen pictures of the FPV GT BA Falcon, and i really think FPV should have done more to the body. Doesn't look that much different to an XR8.
stockvlt, i love you!

The Holden Commodores all look pretty average, cept for the S and SS.
the HSV Commodores do look crazy but... same look as the VX cept with the new lights and stuff.

I've seen a VX clubsprot in the fleash up close, and i thought it was bloody terrible. and 260kw? It only made 172rwkw on the dyno. This was at the CSV Factory. after CSV fitted an exhaust they got 190rwkw from it, much more like it.
I've had the privledge of driving a BA xr6-t and i must say its nothing like any other turboed car i've been in. There is no boost hit, no lag, no spooling of the turbo. Its instant power, very linear right through the rev range. all the way up to the fuel cut just before 6,000 rpm 8O
But i agree...the FPV GT doesn't look that much different to an XR8...a bit dissapointing.

Yeah, i wanna take the XR6T for a thrash. The interior is crazy, and apparently the 4spd adaptive shift automatic is really good!
There's a mad purple XR6T with the plates, BAXRT. I also saw a mad blue one last night, FPVPSI. I aint seen a XR8 yet - I wanna hear how mad it sounds, Ford V8's have always sounded crazy i reckon.

I can't really comment on the adaptive shift, cus i took a 5 speed manual for a drive The box took a bit to get used to, but i'm used to nissan boxes. It was also phantom (the awsome purple colour)

You will actually find that virtually all of Japans car manufacturers ahve shyed away from turbo's for their next model cars due to Japans new ultra tight emmisions laws due to swing in in 2004-2005. Nissan 200sx - no turbo, R35 Skyline - No turbo (ATM). However aftermarket companies are allowed to develop turbo kits for these cars cause they dont have the Aussie EPA bull**** to contend with.
More power for nothing? Everything is a trade off, you cant get power for nothing from a car. eg. Turbo spool time. If its "instantanious" as most Car Journo's love to praise int heir write ups, it might come on boost at 2000rpm but it will run out of puff midway through the rev range. If you want huge top end power, dont expect the turbo to spool up till half way throught the rev range. Everything has a trade off of some kind.
Top marks to Ford though, I myself dont think I would ever buy a BA sedan, GT, XR6T wahtever. (Iam allowed to change my mind later on). The XR6T Ute does it for me though, Oooohhh Baby!!!

27-02-03, 17:33 GMT+10#11 I like the new Fords i reckon they have gone for a more American styling where the Holdens have moved to a more European look.
Its early days, I mean even though people here are doing 9's with an RB30ET it still took at least 10 years before anyone ran a 10, the original Rajabs black VL comes to mind. It was that car that persuaded me i didn't need or even want a V8!
Anyway i think Ford have have made heaps of power by just whacking a twin cam head and a turbo on. The idea originally came from Roger Krogdahl of Townsville when he showed the Ford execs what he could do with a Ford inline 6. His XR6 ute still gets around with a DOHC badge on it, this car was conceived at least 2 years ago!
Anyhoo they r all big sedans with a heavy engine up front. You can make the power, but its the handling where these cars fall short. Guess who comes out better everytime! GO THE FORD!

27-02-03, 19:13 GMT+10#12 I read somewhere that the the XR6T ran a 14.2 @ 104mph. Think it was Motor mag. Thats pretty good coz with traction, good take off ect thats really a mid 13 1/4.

27-02-03, 20:37 GMT+10#13 A Ford XR6T ran a 14.6 at Calder not long ago, this conflicts with the supposed times that magazines produced. Maybe the guy driving it was just a **** driver and missed a gear.
Read in the Age that FPV might be bringing out a high performance turbo 6.
It wont be as powerful as the GTP(290kw) but won't be too far behind.
It will be interesting if this does go ahead what parts they use to extract more power.

28-02-03, 00:53 GMT+10#14 I saw my first XR8 today... black. And it was right next to a VY SS... XR8 looked the goods for sure.
I can't wait to see what kind of power people can screw out of that Boss V8. Imagine that with a vortech on it!

28-02-03, 11:18 GMT+10#15 I like the VY SS.. looks good. The S and SS are the only two Holden Commodore models that are decent. the exec, calais etc.. are ugly.
The HSV Commodores are k-razy, so are the BA's.

28-02-03, 13:21 GMT+10#16 Boss V8 - Quad-Cam high tech powerhouse 260/500Nm
Turbo 6 - Intercooled DOHC GT40 BB Garret Turbo 240kW/450Nm
Barra 6 - DOHC, mountain of power and torque for what it is. 182kW/380Nm
Gen 3 - Oil-chewing ancient American donk. The Americans have proven they don't know how to make muscle cars anymore. 235kW/465Nm
V6 Supercharged - Owned by the N/A Falcon 6. What can I say? 171kW/375Nm
V6 N/A - Old, Harsh, liable to problems at high kilometres. 153kW/305Nm
Then add up the fact that EVERY HOLDEN ENGINE is outpowered by the Ford equivelant, except for the GTS 300 but that's $30,000 more than the 290kw GT. And the GT has more torque, anyway. And Ford offer a Tiptronic gearbox too. And that the VY is as ugly as a bag of arseholes.
Oh but if you buy a Holden, you can be cool and avoid ****heads in VNs who think anything that isn't a Commodore is a bunky piece of crap and need to tell you about how crap your car is, even though it could rape theirs 7 days a week...
I know which one I'll be buying later down the track...

28-02-03, 14:58 GMT+10#19 I wouldn't write Holden off yet, the comapnies are actually going head to head again which will result in better products from both manufacturers.
I would rather drive, own and work the Ford Quad Cam V8 than Holdens 5.7 or even the XR6T. I saw that thing (in the Mustang) keep up with a Diablo in a straight line in a race.

28-02-03, 19:33 GMT+10#20 When you go by 1/4 mile, as in the guy in XR6T running a 14.6, you cant only assume it was a **** time because he could of ran a high mph, or very similar to the mag time, thus indicating a good top speed but **** take off. So all he has to do is learn to drive it.
