gday, i have a VR commodore and sadly only have 1 10 inch sub (due to the massive cost of top quality amps) and i was wonderin if anyone could tell me the best place to chuck the sub in my car... i have it facing into the car from the boot where the seat folds down but only cause it looks awesome... wheres the best place to put it??
Thanks
i just got my 2 * 12" into my ss (vr).. facing in also.. with about half a sub viewin each when u fold down that back seat... and it goes really well, even with the seat up.. i'd say that would be the way to go, just make sure box is the recommended literage for the sub.. and ur laughin.... i think if u face it backward it might be more bassy coz the boot is like a massive enclosure for it, but when thumpin into the cabin it might be more punchy,... i am happy with 2 facing in, my mate has 2 facin inward also in his vs and they sound sweet....
i have boston acoustic and he has alpine s type... (2 12's in each)
personal choice really.. try it facin out and see if theres a diff..
cheers mate

I dont know how a 10 inch will go but from past experience with 1 and 2 12"s i have found by far the best result from facing the sub in the correct enclosure out the bootlid on an angle. And i have also found facing the sub into the back seat (in VL's anyway) by far the worst (apart from forgetting to hookup the amp  )
Cheers,
Chris

Yeah i heard that if ya face them into the car they look awesome but perform like ****... but i spose if you had 2 12's theyd still pump like all hell, thanks fellas, i think i might have to invest ina few 12's..
Thanks

For best SPL the best position in to have ur SUBS or SUB facing outward to the boot (ask any one who knows what they are talking about) trust me man thats the only place to have it cheers
Aaron
its generally best facing out the boot probably about directly below the end of the bootlid (window side) maube a bit back (towards back of car) but not all the way back (against the back of the taillights  )
Cheers,
Chris
Thanks mate... i just found out that its a free air sub... the guys that i bought it from said to put it in a fully sealed box, not a ported one and now it runs soo awesome!! (changed boxes...)
Thanks

Yeah i have a single 10" facing in... and it sounds pretty good.
What i did notice though is if i pushed it back, but still facing the hole of the seat down, it sounded deeper. Sounded pretty good. Maybe you could mount it in a false floor and then have the seat folded down.
hey guys ive got new box underway, 3 10"s in seperate sealed chambers, im curious to the idea of having the centre sub facing through the hole in the centre of the back seat and 1 sub either side of the centre sub facing the traditional way. should be interesting.. so hopefully ill get the big punch from the centre sub and the depth from the other 2.

sounds like an idea mate... let me know how it goes ayew ohh and i dont know how to search on this thing... and i did see one other post about sub positioning but it was for a different car, and i was hoping someone had experience with a similar car to mine and could tell me what was the best way to do it
thanks

ive been told that if u want the best sound for ur sub.. set it up in the middle of your cabin
crank it up and stick ur head in the boot find where it sounds the best.. then set the sub in that spot
then u will ge that same sound in the cabin
apparently anyway, i havnt tried it.. i have a hatch with a single 10" .. i figure since the boot isnt even separate from the cabin ther eisnt any point int moving it so i just chucked it in
Hey, I have talked to a guy from PD's audio in Sydney who did a sick ute with 18 subs in the tray. He said that the best position is to have it on the side opposite the wheel well, facing the passenger side of the car. And to have it lined up under where the window meets the boot. I am about to get an Audison amp to connect to my 12" Rockford sub, I will let you know how it sounds.
My VR SS has 2 12" subs that are in a ported box and angled at a 60 degrees towards each other. and mounted in the boot so that they "fire" into the cabin. This is due to the two boxes being together but separated. This produced the most natural sound, and if I was to go for spl I would face the 180 degrees around. Trust me. while SPL is one thing pleasant sound is another.
Cheers
PS: It is really a personal preference!
