i'd put an import engine or somethin similar rather then modify the original gemi engine... i'm not sure if an sr20 or fj20 turbo motors would fit but i'd think that would be sweet if it got up and running...
i like the idea
I've been in LO-PSI when it was in TX coupe form but the motor is now in a late model TF Gemmy.
The car ran a Isuzu 1600 fitted with VLT pistons and had the block O-ringed it also ran a special turbo cam grind by Crow cams, Darren the guy who built it and owns it runs a EMS ecu and uses a Piazza plenum with a high flow TO3 useing an internal wastegate and a cut down truck cooler, it ran a standard 4 speed manual box, although a auto tranny was tried it was actually slower over the quarter so he uses a manual gearbox.
The diff was a standard Gemini welded up but has finally been changed to a narrowed down Borg Warner Pintara diff.
So far Darren has pushed the Gemini with the Isuzu motor to a low 11 second time over the quarter, check out www.fullboost.com.au in the archive section to see the car it's no show car but was built on a budget.
He generally races it a Heathcote but sometimes races it at Calder.
The car has been around for years and use to be a regular on the illegal street raceing scene, it's a quick little car. 8)
You can either go a turbo on a Gemini in 2 ways the first the expensive way going EFI and the second the cheaper way doing a carby set up useing a webber carby or something else, basically you can use the standard engine put a decompression plate and 2 head gaskets, make up a turbo exhaust manifold to mount the turbo run a oil return to the sump and run a oil feed to the turbo from the oil pressure switch hole.
You can use the standard Gemini inlet manifold and make a cross over pipe bridgeing over the motor and into the turbo.
The turbo needs a adaptor made up so the carby mounts up to the turbo, and make up a water methanol injection system so you can run a little boost. Turbo choice is up to you but bigger is not always best as LO-PSI found out that's why he uses a TO3 with internal wastegate, but you can use a turbo without a internal gate and run something like a 32mm external wastegate. I have seen a set up like this work and run 12's however it was not reliable doing head gaskets all the time and blew up not long after, but who cares a Gemini is a cheap car anyway so put another motor in her and have some more fun unless you are willing to spend more money putting low compression pistons and o-ringing the block.
The costs for a project like this I'd say you can acheieve it well under a $2,000 limit especially if you can do most of the work yourself, have fun.
