Can someone tell me what is involved in changing my vk airflow meter for a vl airflow meter or a map sensor What are the advantages and costs involved How do map sensors work

not possible. The airflow meters, although both made by bosch run off different computers. Its not worth doing. MAP sensors are Manifold Absolute Pressure sensors. It changes its voltage output to the computer according to the air pressure in the inlet manifold when the throttle is opened.

If I can not change the vk airflow meter, then how can I make it less restrictive

...get an aftermarket computer and you can run MAP sensor. Thats about the only way. To get rid of or modify the original airflow meter will require a change or modification of the computer at least. Not worth it unless you are going all out with other mods as well.

AFM u can't really do anything about. Maybe you could move it to the throttle body, this can give you better response due to it reading closer to the plenum.

does that work moving the afm closer to the throttle body even when you have a turbo? I wouldn't have thought it would like all that boosted air bring pumped through it. Nick
