ok guys I need to know about camshafts. I admit I dont know much about them and I am slowly learning and getting the know how on them. I have a heatseeker part no. hs40a i know this cam is too big for the car (I messed up  )as it is running standard heads edelbrock performer manifold, 600 holley it is an auto, standard convertor, extractors, dual 2 and a half pipes and diff is 3:08:1 ratio. Should I change the cam or can I get away by spending some money on the heads. I was told to either go to a heatseeker stage 2 or get the cam dynamics cam as they have a good rep. I guess overall I need to know on a red 308 what is the best cam to go for and what kind of head work should I do to get this running like a nice streeter I also have a fair bit of noise coming from my tappet covers latelyon the right back side, could this be a result of the cam I am using, and the high lift thanks. it is in a hz ute :?

Go the HZ's. Ive got a hz sedan witch im building a 355 stroker for. Unfortunatly i havent got to the cam or head stage of things yet so i cant help you out however if you ring the companys tell them your exact motor and what you want to be able to do with the car they should be able to advise you on what they recomend for your motor and help you out. Good luck

just get ur intake and exhaust ports done and it will run like a charm. If u are expecting over 7k RPMs i would be lookin for rod bolts, pistons etc etc. Anythin upto 6.5k is fine on the standard equipment. The noise could be a sticky lifter nothin serious, but if looking for high revs i suggest getting it looked at will cost next to nothin to get fixed. I also suggest trying to get a 650 or jetting the 600 up, with bigger cam comes more fuel, the perfomer is a fine manifold as long as u have the ports matched to the heads.
