Hi i was wondering whether a P-Plater is allowed to drive a VK with a 308 in it? Is the 308 4.9 or 5 lt? Does it exceed the power to weight ratios? Thanks.

The VK is a 308 - anything after that (ie VL - early VT)'s are 304's (4.9L)

308 = 5.0L 304 = 4.9L 253 = 4.2L 202 = 3.3L 186 = 3.0L

The VK Group A (blue meanie) actually had a 4.9lt V8 in it so it could compete in the class it did. The 4.9lt is the 304 as Insane has said. If it had used the 308 which is 5044cc, then it would have had to run against cars with a capacity up to 6lt like the Jags etc.

You can't drive this car in Victoria. Power to weight ratio it will pass, how ever the number of litres to weight doesn't. If you have your Learners book around, it says it in that. It's all toss toss sh.it anyway, it isn't like the police care if you die anyway. It's just another way of making money. Hello Mr Steve Bracks!

I wouldn't worry about not being able to drive it legally - the cops will di.ck you for everything else first.

Question: if you do get caught with a higher powered vehicle that doesnt pass the power/weigiht, capacity/weight ratios on your P plates, whats the penalty? Just a big fine, or some points + loss of licence? I thin its even ilegal to drive a VN-VX SS, but you can drive a VQ v8 statesman, as the cap/weight is just under the limit.

vl turbo on p's yes thats legal, as far as modifyed cars are concerned, i have no idea about how the rules r enforced, i spose itll b like exhaust noise, if the cop thinks its too powerful, its up 2 u to prove otherwise the penalty is a $105 fine by memory, no points, no loss of license

first time around, you get a $105 fine, and a warning not to drive the car again until your off your P's. If you get caught again you lose you liscence for a month. i had all this explained to me when i got fined driving my vs ss ute. andrew

Depends what state you're in. stageIII, you sure you lose your licence if you get caught the second time around in the same car?

the rules are: (if the cop is not in a good mood) $115 on the spot fine cannot drive the car home you have to get it towed home (and pay) or if you're unlucky you have to get it towed to and then it is imponded for up to 3 months, and you pay impound fees... that is out of a cops mouth

My mate had a VN SS and he was told to sell it within 6 weeks. He didnt have to get it towed. He signed it over to his dad's name so it's all clear now.

Just buy a Rolls Royce like the one i saw last week with P plates on it. Rolls don't list power figures so the cops can't prove that it is over the power to weight limit. Corsa Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
