Heyas
Im lookin at buying the first phase of my stereo this week and the dude at JB Hifi recommended me a set of 6" kicker speakers (ex-62) and a set of 6x9 kicker speakers (ex-693).
Now does anyone know how these perform for sound and power?
I'm worried as both have a lower wattage then other speakers on the market like sony, pioneer etc. Their wattage is between 80 and 120 watts but iv forgotten the actual figure. Now the dude told me that this wont matter as the kicker speakers will give me a better sound then some of those other higher watt speakers and also since they need less watts theyll give me a better volume. Is all this true or is he ****ting me because he wants to sell those speakers to get rid of em?
And if anyones wanting to tell me to not get 6" and 6x9s because some other type of speaker is better dont bother because ive already made up my mind thats what i want, but thanks anyway.
But wat are these speakers like and if they arnt good what would you recommened instead for around 100-140$ for the 6" and 150-200$ for the 6x9s?
Thanks
Well, I haven't heard much of the new kicker series speakers, but the new subs and amps are tremendous. I would fully trust that the speakers that dude has reccommended are good. I would also look at JBL GTO series 6x9's. They sound awesome. As for wattage, the dude is kinda right. Lower wattage speakers will go louder without distorting running off your head unit than higher wattage speakers. BUT, get an amp to better built speakers and its a different story. That being said, there is no reason why kicker speakers can't perform brilliantly under most conditions. I think so far yo've had some good reccommendations made to you.
I have some kicker splits cost me 320 there 6.5 great midbass really thump but these are midbass drivers love to be pumped thats when thy sound the best dont have the best mid range though these are75 rms 150peak see if you can listen to them all befors buying and then chose
kcker speakers kick ass 8)
When I buy Car Speakers, Wattage doesn't even come into consideration, 6x9s are 6x9s and Splits are Splits, all of the power ratings are blown anyway so it doesn't bother me. I would buy a set of Kicker Drivers any day...
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
i got JBL GTO 6.5" splits in the front of mine and am looking at swapping my kenwood 6x9's for some jbl 6x9's as my personal opinion of the jbl sound from mysplits is that they sound awesome
yeah what Kylie says is good advice, don't even bother with power figures if you can get some good sound advice from someone who knows what they're on about.
Maybe change the prices around so that you are spending a bit more on your front splits. That way the sound will be better for you, then try and find a pair of 6x9's for maybe less than $150. They will still play the bass that you want. My front Phoenix Gold 6.0" splits play bass wonderfully, they go very low for 6.0" speakers. Now these splits cost $320, but the model down, the QX series is also very good. 75WRMS power handling (though will take more, my splits are receiving 150WRMS each at the mo and are loving it), and they sound very nice indeed. You can pick up those for around $170-$200. Then buy some 6x9's that you like the sound of and fit in your bugest. A good front stage is very important
it depends what else your system is going to contain, and what you want out of it...
if you have/are going to have subs in your system i wouldnt advise 6x9's...
if your not going to get subs, then 6x9's or 7x10's are a good idea... if you are going to have subs, id spend the extra $$$ from the 6x9's onto better front stage...
have a listen to the speakers, if you dont like how they sound, you'll never be happy.
listen to as many sets as you can in your price range...
yeah i agree with Mick on this one. But one thing to consider is how long you plan to stay on your first phase before adding an amp and sub. If you know you'll be a while, then treat yourself to some 6x9's even though you know you're gonna get a sub in 6 months or a year or some ****. Going for 6 months with only splits is gay. I'm finding it hard to get by with mine and I've been on splits only for about a month now i think.
nup... take it from me... save ya cash and buy once... also saves buyin another parcel shelf after you cut holes for the 6x9's and want to take them out, coz i guarantee you will after you get the sub and amp
why would you want to do that? just fade em down a bit, but leave them there for rear fill if you want it, or at least have them there for your passengers. Why would you want them out?
from a personal SQ point of view i dont like 6x9's and subs... the sound is too much from the rear and not enough from the front... i know so many people who eventually take the 6x9's out... and from a security POV they are a pretty obvious sign that you have a system
yeh i used to run 6x9's in my car. Then i got a 10" sub and still used them. I then un hooked the 6x9's (but still left them in the shelf) and i found the sound to be better than with them on. Then i bought my PG 15" and still left the 6x9's in there(unplugged). It sounded ok, but then I removed the 6x9's and holy ****! so much more bass into the cabin, just coming through those holes. sounds much better with nothing in the shelf.
And i agree with Mick, from an SQ POV it is definately important to have a good front stage, in SQ you want the sound to appear to be coming from in front of you like a live performance. And who cares about the passengers?? who is in the car the majority of the time??? YOU!! so u want it to sound good for YOU.
P.S and Burgandy, i think it depends on what sort of splits you have as to how long u can go with them. I only have my PG's in the car at the mo and they sound great, as much bass coming from them as my mates 6x9's and sounds cleaner too :P. Though yes, he could buy himself a pair of 6x9's to last till he gets a sub or whatever, jus dont spend too much on them.

Oh i agree completely. If the 6x9's were only to be temporary, i wouldn't spend the cash. And why can't you guys have put forward you idea of what soundstage is earlier??!! in a previous thread i was argueing with VK man... he reckons rear fill is necessary for good staging. I argued otherwise and had no damn backup! But I still like rear speakers anyways. For techno and industrial style music, I reckon it sounds wicked with rear fill. And for anything else, just fade em out!
You think maybe mesanjah just created this thread for controversy?? cuz we are the only ppl posting and just creating arguments. He is yet to post again and its been 11 days lol
if you don't like 6x9's i'll assume it's cause of the bass they put out, why not just run a hpf on them?
my system has jbl splits, kenwood 6x9's and 2 12" subs, i'll be putting in a new shelf soon with the 6x9's raised and aimed towards the inside of the car with a hole in between to let the bass through from the boot, also i prefer having 6x9's as i tend to dislike the systems that are drowned out by bass
is it a ported or sealed box as I was going to put a hole between the shelf to got better bass through 2 tell us how much better it workes when it done on here Fresh VL thanks
mines a sealed box, i pulled my back seat forwards a bit to have a gap up the top and could notice the bass difference so it should work, if noti'll just put the old box i got back on the shelf and pretend it never happened
