hey, What do you guys think would be better ???? 1 Alpine R type 12" or 2 Alpine S type 12" I dont listen to that much Doof Doof music, more like Limp Bizkit, Audioslave, POD, that sort of thing so i want good punchy bass more than low down panel shaking bass. Maybe even go 10" subs instead as they tend to be "tighter". Only thinking as i can pick up 2 S types for about the same price as one R type. any thoughts appreciated.

Hey dude my personal opinion is go two 10" subs if you want a more punchy bass no point in going any bigger if thats all you want to get out of your subs. only go bigger if you want the really long and low beats to be coming out of your subs like what comes out of techno music.

nah, not particularly true. I'd gor for the single type R 12", and put it in a 1 cubic foot enclosure. Get nice power to it (say 200 - 300 wrms) and you'll be stoked. Then in future, if you want deeper bass, just make a bigger box for it. Also, if you get your hands on a bigger amp in the future, the typr R will handle it better and go absolutely nuts (but at power levels above say 400wrms I wouldn't go bigger than a 1 cubic foot box).

yeah i never intended to go two subs it was just a thought as the 2 S types were a very similar price to the 1 R type

Ha Ha, Yeah, 2 x Type S, if I remember correctly they are Free-Airing too... I mean, we all have Spectrum Analyzers in our Boots and a big Switch on the end of a cable in the cabin to turn the Stereo on and off don't we? 8O What!!? This isn't cool??!! Are you Serious?

I alsways thought the subs in fast and furios were in sealed boxes and not "free airing" but I could be wrong. If you listen to rock styled music, the quicker/faster and punchier the bass response the better. 2 x 10's would be fine for this, but you would be limiting all the lowest frequencies that a sub is suppose to add to a car system. If cost is a major factor and you and not the 20-30hz zone, simply buy brand name 6x9's and you will be happy. If you buy a sub or two, do as suggested by burgendycalais and place them in the recomended sealed box for nice fast punchy bass and power with at least 200wrms per sub.

Hey. I've got 2 12inch Type R subs in the back of my car (it's a R31 skyline but ) I had 2 MASSIVE boxes for them originally! http://www.pbase.com/image/7191188 Since I got ****ted off with the idea of having no boot space I went n saw a mate at a car audio place who said to build up a 45L ported box for the subs. I told him he was dreaming and that it'll never work....but I went home and tried it anyway. So, 45L box, 4inch diameter port - 25cm depth. Port is positioned on the Top of the box at the very back (about 2cm from the back of the box. THIS THING GOES OFF ITS DIAL! I get MEGA bass with stuff all sub woofer movement! It really has to be heard to be believed! I had nearly the same volume from one sub in a ported box as I did with 2 Type R's in massive sealed boxes! I run about 330wrms into them and it's just unbelievable!! I'll get pics of it soon. But it's incredible! These specs only work for the Type R's and are terrible on the Type S (not sure why). Worth a try if you hav a bit of wood laying around. Lata

yeah, the bigger the box, the less volume. You'll get lower frequencies, but it'll be quieter.

for the type R's i will suggest a 1.2 CBF enclosure(trust me i have tried heaps a different sizes, and that is the best, i have 2 type Rs in my boot runing off my old Blaupunkt burning Desire amp, they are nice you wont be dissapointed Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
