Transtyle down Dandenong way. They build a good 3 speed Jatco(proper three speed, no overdrive)

Depends if you want your VL as a serious track car ie. sub 12s in which case go Yarra Valley. Otherwise as a solid quick daily driver and you don't want to pay through the nose, see Ratco in Dandenong. They do high quality Jatco rebuilds and would handle 12 psi and your other mods, no problems, even after lots of punishment. Good prices on high stalls too. cheers

Not the case FormulaVL! Lets see stage 2 auto from Ratco $1500 right? You only get what you pay for. I had my tranz rebuilt them and not happy at all. Firts of all Its jolts when tacking off (sprag is rooted) they told me it was the tail shaft plz ive been a mechanic for 12 years i would know if it was the tail shaft! Second under heavy load, shifts great from first to second then doesnt want to shift to third unless you let the throttle go (Manually shifting or auto). Thats how you win races!!!!!!!! I also sent a freind from these forums to Ratco as well to have his Jatco serviced and this is what he got. Instead of removing the the xmember to get to the rear bolts of the pan they bent it back with a crow bar. How do i know this? I did the convesion on his car from atmo to turbo including the box so i fitted the Xmemeber and it was fine b4 the service. Im not the one to bag establishments, I always give prays where its due but some places must get a PLUG but. Regards....

Sorry to hear that man, and to your friend. And yes, apparently there is a ratco legion of victims out there in the past... duly noted. but it's horses for courses. Like i said (and in previous posts about this), I emphasised that Ratco are good for rebuilds to suit modest mods (prolly up to 200rwkw), and nothing in the radical numbers on the track, as is the case with my car. Nor am I looking to that in the future. If I were to achieve that, then Yarra Valley is a definite goer. However I saw 1500 as great value for money and a worthwhile investment for my always-is-always-will-be-humble' beast 8)

I have a Hugo's built Jatco in my own VL and pretty happy with it and my cars not makeing big power or boost. I also have a friend's car that has a Yarra Valley Jatco and it's still holding up. With the old TO3 and running 21psi it only produced 308hp at the wheels at P.e.t 's dyno. However the same car is now running a bigger TO4 turbo built by P.e.t as the ATS built TO3 destroyed itself so we are wondering if the auto will hold up as the car still has'nt been dynoed because it's half way through a full body restoration. If it stuffs up and it probably will sooner or later it's getting a Tri-matic. A modified Jatco is better suited to milder cars but if getting serious about raceing don't blow your money on a Jatco it won't last, thay generally **** themselves when running low 12 to 11 second passes. And get your transmission built by Raceglide's or Yarra Valley they have done alot of VL's so they know what it takes to build a resonably strong auto. And remember they are not cheap and you get what you pay for. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yer, i agree with Reb rb30jet, I currently have a Yarra valley box in my vlt and it is great. Still holding up perfect. Has been holding up perfect in my car running 11 second passes for a while now. For a jatco, it shifts supprisingly hard 1-2 shift turns the tyres and 2-3 is a really firm shift too. So yeah for a mild street car, i would reccomend one. And yes you do get what you pay for. I guess with a yarra valley your paying for all the extra custom machine work, bigger servos, drums machined for torrington's and quality clutches etc etc.

Gday ! Hugo seems really genuine ! he is about 45 years old and he claims he is an expert at rebuilding vl's he claims that he went to the same transmission school as tony at yarra valley transmisisons. he said that he only has 1 problem with yarral valley transmissions and that is the talk converter they use. he reckons the one they use is crap for a the turbo to cut it short, hugo has quoteds me $2759 to re do a really strong vl transmission with a really good talk converter and a transmission cooler yarra valley quoted me $2500 what do u think? cheers lozza

lozza. Transtyle build a 3 speed Jatco with a full manual valvebody, transmission cooler, 3000 stall convertor, rebuilt and extended tailshaft, and to handle more power than a 4 speed Jatco(apparently), for about the same price as Hugos quote.

HSVSUX, Yarra Valley used to use dominator 2800 in most jatcos? Replaced with a 2800 TCT convertor. I liked it a lot. Very tight, but also blew up after about 20,000km's  . I'm sure Hugo's would use TCE convertor. They are supposed to be one of the best especially in racing. (From what i've heard most of the guys left dominator because of some sort of dispute and started the company TCE) I am not happy with my TCE convertor as yet, but you get that. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I think hugo uses TCE ( Talk Converter Engineering ) However, there are different types of talk converters, so i am not sure which one he plans to use. but he was very, very adimant that the one that yarra valley use was crap ! so from that, i would assume that he wouldn't plan to use a crap one on my vl from his past experience. cheers lozza

Raceglide's only uses and recommends useing TCE convertors, I run a 3,000 TCE stall in my VL and no problems with it. Yarra Valley use the TCT convertor which are ****. The same car I was talking about above of my mates used to run a TCT 2,800 stall to small but my mate changed it to a TCE 3,200 stall and even that's a bit small for this new turbo he has fitted he really need's a 3,700 stall. Another thing don't buy a transmission cooler off Yarra Valley he ripped me off and charged me $300 for the cooler and I fitted it myself, I later found out through a friend he buy's them from a wholesaler supplyer for $160.70 each and they are not a BTR cooler that he states. I got kinda pissed about that. TCE are based in Ringwood Victoria, they were set up by drag raceing transmission guru Phill Sodestrom who sold the business to another guy but Phill still helps out with the technical side of thing's. Phill Soderstrom also worked at Doniminator convertors-Autoflyte engineering, then moved on to form a business named Raceglide's in which he really developed the 2 speed Power Glide and Tri-matic to handle big power applications. Phill then sold the business Raceglide's to Hugo Di Vencenzo who himself is a well known drag racer Hugo also makes a few other products to suit raceing applications. have you looked at the raceglide's website? www.raceglides.com.au Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
