I have an idea. This might not be it, but if it is, it's a quick fix. When I had my old VK converted from auto to manual, i noticed that sort of thing after a while. It only did it when under a bit of load, not just uner easy driving conditions. I got my head under the back of the car and found out that the mechanic who did the swap didn;t tighten the bolts that hold the rear uni joint in properly. I figure it could be the same problem even if you guys have manuals. Just look right back near your diff... there'll be some bolts back there... just give em a check.

My auto used to do this when it was getting low on fluid (auto fluid). This happened quite often for me as there was a leak from the gear box. It was a stuffed gasket, but now it is all good.. but you said it has just been serviced?? So, what i suggested is all i can offer you. good luck. Kane

I've had the backlash problem with my old diff. Then when i did my auto to manual conversion the backlash was so bad that you could barly drive the car (auto soaked up most of it). Then when it was time to replace the diff we found this sludge on the end of the axles (was oil and iron filings...but was sludge) the diff was on the verge of departing duties. Then after we did the diff swap my mates who fitted the diff, forgot to tighten the diff bolts. and I thought i had backlass in my new diff. But what it was, was loose diff to tail shaft bolts Easy fixed though Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

my auto does the same thing. i have put in a diff that had no backlash in the car it came from (i was in it a few weeks before). so it must be my uni's being worn. i'd be checking them if i were you. i would have changed mine but i'm planning a 5spd conversion at some point so i'll just do it then.
