Hey
Just wondering security measures you guys have on your cars to defend against your car getting stolen, stereo getting stolen, or your car just being trashed.
Also how many of ya's have had things like the above happen and what can you do to avoid having it done to your car?

I can open all my doors with a screen door key, a small flat head screw driver, a metal nail file and even just a flat strip of metal. I had my Exec 87 stolen three weeks after i bought it and put 1300 worth or rubber and mags on it. Im lucky to get it back at all.. now after a year im slowly fixing everything back up. Will be getting an immobiliser and alarm soon as. Using a club lock and the fact that it looks like a peice of **** to deter people from stealing it again.. but it goes pretty well. If you live on the southside of Brisbane.. DO NOT PARK IN CARINDALE SHOPPING CENTRE ever.

Some great ways to secure your VL i've found are!
* padlock around your auto gearnob (between the thing you pull up and the handle) by doing this they can't take it out of park without bolt cutters
* clublock works well
* nice alarm with a battery backup system (black wire system is the best) and a 3 point immobiliser
* a few kill switches never go a stray
* tint the windows and don't leave money/cd's/clothes in view
* solex locks or re-conditioned locks will set u back from $150-$300 but are worth it
* leave your car stock looking and never wash it
* you can even take out the shortest lead under the bonnet. or take out the ignition fuse (or fuel pump)
there are many other ways to protect your vl... kill switches and 3 point imobiliser is the best system out there! viper alarms are prob the best!
regards
Mark!

1.*The thing you pull up on VLs falls down on many. Padlocks here simply dont work.
2.* All brands of steering wheel locks can be snapped or bent very easily
3.* Kill switches- not bad but can be easy to find where they are wired up to and overcome
4.* Agree
5.* Any lock can be easily punched out of a door. Waste of money buying locks-put the money towards an immobiliser
6.* Saves you money and makes the car a bit less attractive for thieves
7* Better to take out the longest lead- the shortest one can always be replaced by any other one. I think you also mean ignition or fuel pump relay

relay... yep...
and the padlock still is a deterant and a clublock, and the flashing light for the alarm... too many things to worry about, will they honestly try if they have to spend 20minutes pulling **** out of the car to steal it? or move onto the next?
most cars have been sussed out before stolen as well.. so don't leave your car in the same spot all the time, try rotate between car spots in shopping centres, different carpark levels, and always try leave it at night under a well lit area..

Yep. i used to do all of the things that you say not to do and none of the things you suggest. Also I had just bought a new club lock and wasnt used to owning it, so i didnt put it on. I even use it these days when I lock it up in the garage.

yeh i bought a padlock and i was fiddling with it and i pushed on the lower tab thing and it fell down exposing 2 metal pins which i pulled up and was able to select gear. I don't bother with it any more as it takes less than 30 seconds and i wasn't pushing hard on it so a theif could easily do it. I went to the trouble of installing a rhino alarm worth $300 with an alarm, immobiliser and all that. Sure i could have gone much expensive but i don't really see the point when theives can steel it no matter what.

07-02-03, 23:44 GMT+10#10 is it possible, that if you have central locking and keyless entry, could you take the locks off the outisde and bog them up?? and remove the thingies inside the car used to unlock the door?
so that way, (other than breaking a window) the only way to unlock a door is with the remote?

And lets say ur remote is smashed to pieces in the accident so the rescue guys can't use that then what? Break a window and then try to squeeze a severely injured person out of the car?

Believe me that is not a problem.
At work we use Holmatro Super Spreaders and lots of other high power gear that can make mincemeat out of any car.
We can open car doors from the lock or the hinge side, flap back the roof, do a footwell exposure so if your feet are trapped amongst the pedals we can get at them.

10-02-03, 09:07 GMT+10#14 Buy a new clublock. Cause they have a warranty that says if your car gets stolen whilst out clublock is correctly fitted to your vehicle then we will pay you 2000 bucks.

10-02-03, 15:25 GMT+10#15 Correction, they will only pay up to $2000 towardds your insurance excess, so you will need to have Comprehensive insurance first to be able to take advantage of the offer. (and keep your docket, and remember that the warranty only lasts 12 months)

"Get away from the vehicle motherf*cker."
