Does anyone know if you should not run the aerial wire directly accross or parallel to any of the other stereo wires? I'm getting a bit of interference or something and am trying to sort out why..
cheers
So your only getting interfearence through radio stations, not CD...??? If so then check your aerial wire isnt running alongside a main power cable or shorting to the chassis or anything of the sort. Check the ground of your head unit too, make sure its a good connection. Also pays to run another ground to the same point and onto the casing of the head unit. Are you running an amp??
What is most likely occuring is that you have an un-diagnosed wire arcing to the chassis and you are never, ever going to find it.
It's called pre 90s nissan electrical systems are sheise.
it's the Holden 8 - so I don't think the Nissan thing is relevant?
Yup - am running an amp.. thought it was only the radio, though last night - could hear slight interferance with the CD too (I turned it off - got sick of it). Yeah I'll have to check all the wires agian (have done a couple of quick checks - nothing of interest) - I'll have to rip it all apart again shortly me thinks - d'oh! Very annoying!
Thanks for responses D
Check amp earth is good and that your RCA leads arent running next to power leads that go to your amp. If none of this works you might need a ground loop isolator for your RCA leads.....
can anyone explain what a ground loops isolator is? how do i set one up? I get interference ad described above and have been trying to fix it for over a year , ive done everything anyone has ever told me and everything i have found during research and still get interference.. though i get slight clicking from the brake lights, indicators, wipers, aircon, etc... the next thing i am going to try is to run the HU from the battery as i read someone that running it from ignition isnt as clean a powersource as the battery as a lot of things run from the ignition... dunno the validity of this, but i will try anything
