Hi Guys,
Anyone got any ideas as to how i can remove the snapped off bleed bolt on the plenum chamber. The bolt snapped off halfway in over the weekend. Was wondering if anyone had any hints as to how i can get it out without going to a mechanic. Cheers

Get a small drill bit and CAREFULLY drill into the top of the snapped bolt. Then put in a screw, tighten it up as much as you dare, then carefull undo the screw. Better still... get a mechanic to do it and if it doesnt work... blame the mechanic !!

Those ****ing bleed bolts!
I have broken 4 in total.
I gave up replacing the plenum and now i disconnect a hose to remove air bubbles

Yep.. been there done that. Easy outs are the answer.
You're lucky since it's pretty easy to get a drill in on the coolant bleed bolts.
Basically you drill a small hole into the centre of the bolt - not all the way a few mm should do. The screw in the easy out. They have a reverse thread on them so when you tighten the easy out you are in effect unscrewing the broken bolt once the easy out screws in no further. They are tapered so they get tight pretty quick.
Since the head of the bolt is now gone, the remaining thread in the plenum should be pretty easy to turn and get out with the easy out.
Should be able to get easy outs at an auto store or almost definitely a hardware store.

Im with Madhatter on this one, ive snapped them on two vl motors, two skyline motors, tried easy outs but because the bolts are so small they werent a great success. Even soaked them in wd40 o night before removing, but they still snapped. Some of them snapped going in not out, would you believe that?, luckily enough they were in enough to stop leaks
So i give up now, just off with the hose, seems to do the trick ok.
I always still take note of peoples plenums, on their cars to see if they are snapped, quite suprisingly most of them are still ok ive found. Unless they dont bleed their cooling system :?
Who knows
Either way i havent had much success with these bolts over the years.

God Damn it I broke my top Bleeder bolt clean in the Top part of Plenum it is sitting flush with plenum ,Will it leak or should I use Easy Out as suggested here?

I'd say the reason they snap is the constant heating up and cooling down over the years.
Next time you pull them out replace them with new ones, high tensile bolts which you can get from an auto shop or hardware store would be perfect.

i just drill a hole next to the snapped bolt and tap a new thread creating a new bleed point

30-08-04, 18:49 GMT+10#11 just make sure you use a bolt with a copper washer like the stock bolt does

31-08-04, 12:32 GMT+10#14 Guys its so easy just bleed it through the water temp sender next to the bleed bolt. Easy outs are rubbish... Use Snap on bolt removers if you must take it out...

31-08-04, 13:02 GMT+10#15 I snapped two of the bleed bolts on the weekend. got all the air out through the pipes, have left the snapped bolts in and will get the mechanic to remove them on my next service.

31-08-04, 16:13 GMT+10#16 Just remove all the hoses going to the plenum, it's a f*ckin stupid iea to have coolant going through the intake anyway. I've bypassed all the hoses on my engine, so the highest point in my cooling system is the radiator cap.

01-09-04, 00:50 GMT+10#20 Yeah the head is a little higher, I jacked up the front of my car to fill the cooling system. My head is going strong, it's not cracking any time soon.
Bypassing the hoses is just as it sounds. Find the fittings on the block that are the feed/return for the inlet manifold, and just connect them together so that the coolant feeds straight into the return rather than going through the inlet manifold first.
