just wondering if someone could tell me whats going on with my auto.. when the engines cold, and i accelerate, the box slips out of first into neutral, revs up, then clunks into first gear.. does it a few times before it heats up then works fine.. anyone know whats going on?

my car has a similar problem when it's cold, after i start it and put it into gear it often stalls altogether and when i do manage to stop it stalling after a few goes i put my foot down and it seems to just rev for a bit. until the car is warmed up a bit(few hundred metres down the road) the gear changes are fairly rough. the rest of the time the car is fine. i had the gear box reconditioned not long ago so i had it back to the gear box place and they can't find n e thing wrong with it. they tell me it has to be sumthin wrong with the engine... ur problem sounds different though ..good luck in solving it mate.

so if go to an auto specialist, to fix the bands he's gotta remove the transmission? if so, thats gonna cost me a fair bit of labour

by the sound of it the trans is stuffed... give it a service (new fluid, filter and band adjustment) and see how it goes. i recently did that to one that was doing the same thing and it lasted 2 weeks before it lost 2nd gear completely.

hahaha not worth dumping the auto and putting a manual in?

cheapest option is to get a secondhand auto. you can get them for $200ish. its what i did to mine. however putting a manual in would be a much better idea and is what i will do soon too Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
