I have only heard good reports on them, quite a few mates have the higher models, but i'll probably be getting the KD-SX985 in the next few weeks, caus I can't really justify spending over $500 on a deck.

yea likewise. i think i'll settle for the S785 tho. need it kinda urgently, and stacker controls dont bother me!

apparently jvc headunits are close to the best that u can buy soundwise. there build quality is also supposed to be superior to most. just dont have as cool namebrand as some.

Yeah JVC were pretty unknown to me a few years ago. When I started looking at stereo gear, I was like wtf is this JVC brand, but now imo they are the leaders in at least Head Units. The equivilent Kenwood or Pioneer decks are at least a few hundred dearer with no added benefits.

i used to have a base model cd player in my old berlina in the jvc's and it was great, until the car got stolen, :x

Well JVC certainly aren't the best 'soundwise', but their value for money ****s on most other brands. For some reason I have this huge bias against them, even though they are definately great units. Panasonic come close to matching JVC for value for money, and their sound quality is excellent. But, working at Brissy Car Sound, I still find it hard to match JVC units it comes to relatively cheap MP3 units.

Yeah, BurgundyCalais is right... JVS aren't the best for soundwise. The amplifiers in the decks aren't as good as say a Pioneer.
I've got the JVC Kameleon deck (the one where the buttons appear from the bottom), and my mate's got the latest model MP3 one.
They're both kick-ass decks feature wise, but yeah, if we changed our decks to Pioneer/Alpine/Nakamichi, then the whole system would sound better.
But if it's features that you're currently looking for and MP3 playback, then for the price of the JVC MP3 ones, there's nothing that can top it

I've got a jvc cd/tuner - works pretty well, and excellent value for money Sound quality to my (relativly untrained ears  ) is really good, and personally I would buy one again... but I think next stop will be an alpine one or something like that

30-01-03, 16:12 GMT+10#10 If you are listening to mp3's the sound quality isn't going to be as good as a proper cd anyway, although one of my mates has a jvc mp3 deck, with focal splits and i forget the amp, but an extreamly good one, and this sounded absolutly perfect, even with mp3's.
