I, like a few others, arn't among those lucky enough to be able to own a VL Calais, but of course would love to. Given the cars age, availablility of parts, and the way they so easily slot into place (most of em anyway) .. I've undertaken the task of eventually slowly building my car up to calais level .. my final goal would be of course to have the car undestiguishable from a calais, VIN number aside .. So, in my workings, I'm attempting to compile a list of everything that different trim levels had .. Not sure how anywhere near complete it is .. and generally the list is only accurate in the SL and Calais columns .. I don't know how much some things apply to Berlina and Exec .. so any help in any references would be very handy .. Just was thinkin if this list can be compiled in a bit more accuracy, it might be a useful feature to have on the calaisturbo website .. Hopefully this formatting will come out: SL Exec Berlin Calais Velour Trim False False True True Power Mirrors False False True True Power Steering False True True True Cruise Control False False False True Tacho Dash False False True True Rear Headrests False False False True Rear Int Lights False False False True Map Light Int False False False True Elec Windows False False False True Vel Roof Lining False False False True Bonnet Lining False False False True Bonnet Light False False False True Vel Glove Box False False False True C Console Lid False False True True Vel Door Trims False False True True Power Antenna False False True True Extra Boot carp False False True True Pop up hlights False False False True Grey Rear True True False False Darkened Rear False False True False Calais Rear End False False False True Velour Seats False False True True Vanity Mirror False False False True "Jesus" handles False False False True Factory Alarm False False False True Front Grille False False False True Calais Bumpers False False False True Interior Badges False False False True Exterior Badges False False False True Side Trims False False False True Side Skirts False False False True R. Have you compared the prices of the total Calais pieces and putting them onto your current VL against that of purchasing a VL Calais outright? (that is a question - not a rude statement - please don't get the wrong impression D )

There seem to be a lot of wrong items there? Lots of cars had different options but.

Girl Torque: Yeah i have .. and I know what you mean .. cost could end up more .. esp given the prices on nose cone and tail lights and the like but so far i've already got the interior nearly 100% complete, and all for a whopping $50 (seats included) due to a friend who recently wrote off his calais and coudlnt be stuffed doing anythign with the shell .. so I figure the savings I've made on that stuff (and a few other bits and pieces so far might balance it out .. Jet-6: Yeah, the list would be largly inaccurate .. all I know is what my SL has and others i've talked to, and whats on a calais from memory .. i know berlinas and execs could option stuff .. my SL even has factory P/s and Aircon .. so that was optionalable too .. thats why I was hoping otehrs could update it a lot and tell from theyr experiences with VLs what goes where and whats optional Peronsally i'm mainly interested in what was on a stock calais, so I can make sure I get everything if I'm building mine up to that level, but the rest of the list would be useful to others im sure .. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yep, I know I benifit from his lazyness .. he gave the remaining shell to one of those "have your car taken away for free" places .. let me gut what I wanted from it before he let it go .. unfortunatly the front end was smashed up really badly, and the tail lights were so cracked and broken from mistreatment anyway .. it was a sad calais as it was .. mildue in the boot, HEAPS of rubbish and **** in the inside, dash panels falling apart .. most of the screws were missing .. stereo just sat loosly in its spot .. amp sat loose in the boot .. was quite an effort to first clean it, then strip the interior Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

You can buy new non-genuine calias tail lights (look exactly the same) for about $70 each. Holden want about $300 each.

This page is being made sticky. also, a lot of the calais standards were optional on the berlina, such as power windows, mirrors, cruise etc and we made need another column for BT1 as well I'll work on putting this onto a page and we can take it from there. cheers for the good work!~ Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i used to have a berlina before it was stolen and i got my calais and from all reports it was fully stock (non-optioned) it was a series 1 and it did (contrary to the list) have rear int lights, vanity mirror and bonnet lining. just thought i would throw that in

What about the arm rest in the middle believe that the Calais models had it carpeted (s.2)?!

I'd buy yourself both parts books (pics M40000 & text M40000A) if they're still available, look for everything marked "8VX" and go nuts. Much more there than meets the eye. The options and combinations available back then are mind boggling, not to mention the Calais interior upgrade which came through in April '87.

do you mean arm rest or console? The whole interior is velour in Calais (apart from lower level door trim which is carpet)a nd the console and glove box are veloured in S2 Calais (S1 has console but not glove box veloured I think)

Yeh i know of a stock vl berlina that had bonnet lining, vanity mirror and a boot mat that coverd the spare tyre. My exec also has berlina arm rests too so that must of been an option Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
