hey, im new to these forums and just havea few questions to get the ball rolling. ive only really dealt with carby cars, so im not sure on efi and some other things with ecu's. firstly im looking at a commodore for a daily driver and probaly a vl as they dont havea crappy holden motor, i am wondering wether the rb30 revs as badly as the v6 holden engines that came int he vn's and vp's and later. do the rb series act alot better while revving and what abuot lowdown torque? also i havent tuned an efi car and since im a bit clueless can someoen tell me if its the same as carby cars. where u just plug int he timing light and turn the distributor cap? also how much is reasonable for a stock manual vl with under 180000 ks on it these days? thanks for any help t

Hi dude, Well The Motor in the VL ,Is heaps better and smoother than the VN series on wards ,as the V6 Buick Engines are rough and when revved hard they sound like sonething is very wrong and sick with motor. The VL is smoooth through all gears... Torque is enuf and price for VL 5 Speed ,with 180K's ,Well it depend on Body,Paint,Drivability etc... Price range anywhere Between $2,000 to $6,000 for it to be in Immaculate condition ,would be Xcellent to find an old couple who generally look after their car but I guess you need to be @ right place @ right time good luck , hope this helps.. I find the VL's do have some low down torque, but mine really starts to throw you back at around 3500 rpm. mines a 5 speed manual. a manual vl will kill a v6 auto in vn, vp and even vr. never raced a vs yet.

mines auto and seems to "throw you back" at around the 3500rpm mark aswell. still has fairly good low down aswell though.

i cant stand autos. i know alot of vls are, but id rather wait and find an ok or good manual than buy a excellent auto one.. i occasionaly drive mums vs wen i go home and its just annoying being an auto, and it hates reving hard Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
