i think that it would be really hard, as computers, sensors (on the brakes i believe) and lines would have to be run.. and whether you would have to get vt brakes or not I don't know... nothing is impossible i guess.....
ABS isnt legal on a model that never came with it (ie, car series). The ABS Computer works off things like car weight, forward/rear brake balancing, even car dynamics. The difference between a VL and a VT is insanely huge. I remember someone doing a VS complete interior conversion to a VC or VH had problems getting Road Worthy on the finsihed product because he'd used the dash mouldings from an ABS equiped VS, and it had the "SRS" logo on the dash. He had to change the plastics to make it legal.
It is fine to say that you can brake better than ABS in a straight line... but as soon as you have less grip on on wheel, then you can only brake to as much as the weakest gripping tyre. Most ABS have 3 channels, FR, FL and REAR. ABS really stands out when you are driving in the wet, because once you lock up you have to realease the break and start again......
I agree that it would not be worth the trouble to fit it to a VL, but yes it is a good system.

What a stupid comment :!:
You MAY be able to stop slightly quicker without ABS BUT you cant steer your way out of trouble with you foot slammed on the brake pedal without ABS.
ABS is deffinately a great system for a road car.
Can be the difference between hit and a miss, especially in the wet.
If you wont to try it out, get in a car with ABS and stomp on the brakes in the wet from 80+km/h, sheer AWESOME
Now go get into a car without ABS and stomp on it at 80+km/h and see where you end up ops:
What i have suggested could be a real life situation, if you were on a highway/freeway and u had to suddenly stop, could save your arse.
Mick
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Not to mention it allows you the ability for average steering control while under heavy braking .. slam it on in the wet at 80 without ABS and your going one direction and one direction only .. with ABS you still have a fair ammount of steering control .. Can allow you to avoid thing as well.
erm if you are competent and actually practise the skills you learn at advanced driving courses you should be able to "replicate" abs yourself by pumping the brake pedal in an emergency that requires it. ABS is an excuse for lack of skill in drivers

Sorry, couldnt let this one slip by---->so when that semi trailer pulls onto the highway in front of you...whilst your doing 100km/h chatting to the missus...in the wet..... your going to instantly recall all the stuff that you did on a track day a year or so ago??
Or are you just going to instantly mash the middle pedal in fear (as I, or 99% of drivers on the road would).
Cadence is extremley effecitve in a practiced driver, IN A CONTROLLED SITUATION, but if you think you are going to be able to perfect it in an emergency situation on the road with under a second to think about it, your kidding!
Whilst I agree with HSVSUX that there are great brake options out there for VL's, I would tick the ABS box on every single road car I drive if it was an option.
I also have a magazine article around here with Ed Ordinski talking about ABS, and how a driver even at his level has trouble bettering it....but I guess he's one of those guys that has a "lack of driving skill" huh?

thats my point - unconcious drivers. a half awake driver would be looking ahead where they are driving and note a huge ****ing semi that could potentially **** them up

also why i mentioned that practise is required to keep learnt skills up

even if you dont do it perfectly, i'd prefer having the responsibility of doing it and having more "control" over it than a computer deciding for me

Say that when the person behind you slams into your ass and does thousands of bucks worth of damage to your pride and job .. you might be able to drive well, but the majority of others cant ..
