Anyone know what would cause bubbling/gurgling type sounds from the fuel tank? Only just started it recently .. I'm assuming its gotta be one of the fuel pumps .. by the sound of it (much louder when fuel cap is open) its gotta be the low pressure pump in the tank .. How do I go about getting to it/checking it? Or any other suggestions?

got similar problem dude, same kinda sound comes from the rear right when the fuel tank is anywhere under 1/4, strang thing is it only is noticable when idleing at lights etc

yep, sitting on ~1/4 tank at the moment .. oddly enough the first time its done it .. but I've been down to well below the red mark before and not had this before .. Will be filling it up again tomorrow, which will hopefully quiet it (even does it on LPG, because the fuel pumps still run to keep line pressurised). Just wondering what might have actually changed to cause it .. only thing I can think of this is the first time I've put spitdfire injector/fuel system cleaner in the tank .. Maybe its disloged/upset something?

Mine started this also afew months back, it seems to be getting progressively worse (louder) also now it sounds like my HP pump is sometimes running dry (also around 1/4 tank) Im thinking maybe the pickup lines inside the tank has moved\disloged?

gremlins dude
they populate most vls fuel tanks , when they get hungry their stomachs grumble etc thus explaining the gurgling noises you hear.

mines started doing that recently too, mine starts closer to empty tho, its only when i first turn the power on, even if i havnt started the car, if the ignition is on it makes a sound like it cant reach the fuel, and and is sucking in air bubbles, im not sure, but it hasnt caused and major dillemas tho

I get the exact same problem, just when I start it up and its low on Fuel, however I have the Tank off the car at the moment and drained and will also be replacing all the Fuel Pumps Etc soon so hopefully no more Fuel Problems...

24-01-03, 17:32 GMT+10#11 yeah mine does it when it's pretty empty (and I quite often see the needle on the wrong side of fuel gauges red line heh)...

27-01-03, 00:07 GMT+10#13 yeah mine has gotten progressively worse over the last 6 months.... from an obvious noise, to now every 2 weeks or so, throwing its little "ahh i'm running out of fuel" tantrum including chugging and stalling. hah, nah i'm good to my baby, and well i'll be slipping in a new(i'll tell her that ) fuel setup (ie. both pumps) in the next few days.
i'm actually pretty scared about seeing how much **** is living inside my fuel tank, because i looked in a mate's R31 wreck tank and it was pretty scary. it stings the tight-ass out of u

30-01-03, 00:11 GMT+10#15 Yes this happend to me 6mths ago and it was the low pressure fuel pump.
$130 or so from repco or auto barn - go get one!!! empty your tank, unbolt and follow directions on pack. Get a Gregorys if needed.
Very easy job
I was told it could be this, could be that, but if your low pressure pump stops then the main one is doing all the work and makes a louder sucking sound than Hugh Grants car :

24-02-03, 17:56 GMT+10#16 ive just had both my fuel pumps replaced. cost me $376 for both, brand new. however this has made the gurgling noise in my car heaps louder, even when theres stcks of fuel in it. in my case its the fuel return. so maybe this could be your problems

24-02-03, 18:58 GMT+10#17 If the low pressure pump stops/plays up, and the high pressure is doing all the work, would this affect overall fuel pressure? and cause bad performance, occasionally misses when planting the foot and bad fuel economy?

24-02-03, 22:50 GMT+10#18 nah dont worry about the noise guys, from my experience its the fuel pump pumping that first bit of fuel and begin its job. But if its still happening when ur idling then its ur fuel pump not doing its job effeciently. (new fuel pump) Just out of interest do u have rough idling when stopped??? If so then it most definnetly due for a new pump right away.

24-02-03, 22:59 GMT+10#19 What we're talking about is at idle (and even driving in my case) .. I'm well used to the noise at startup when it pressurises the system.
Anyone know the exact symptoms of a completly failed low pressure pump?

24-02-03, 23:08 GMT+10#20 yeah i know, u would have rough idling, problems starting ur car, poor fuel economy, and gurgling noises constintly from ur engine. Even just one of these could suggest fuel pump problems.
