I have done this too ) You basically make 2 parcel shelves - put the speakers in the lower one, and the second one covers over the top. We spend a fait bit of time on mine and it fits really well. It doesn't hinder the sound as we've used speaker mesh over the top 'parcel shelf' which has been cut to a 'ribbed' structure to allow sound through and retain it's parcel shelf look and keep the mesh taught. DWith a bit of mucking around and skill you can do anything D (LOL - lucky my other half has the skill - i just get the ideas and do the lacky stuff - ha ha!)

use 18mm mdf to mount ur speakers in, get another sheet of mdf the same size but only high enough to cover your speakers, mount your speakers in the bottom board and place on parcel shelf, cut holes in 2nd board to allow speakers n grill thru, carpet the top board and sit it straight over your top, no more speakers and a smooth looking parcel shelf Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Do u recon you sould make a parcel shelf, then around the outside have a "lip" high enuf to clear the speakers, then pull a bit of mesh carpet stuff tight over the lips covering the entire parcel shelf? Maybe even have a "lip" that runs down the centre of the shelf to give it a bit more support?

but then if u have to access the speakers it's diffcult, thats why i suggested a 2nd board on top, easy to remove :P

Mine is like what you guys are saying but i just made sections of 18mm mdf that screw to the metal and the speakers go into them, instead of having two complete shelfs, then just a shelf out of 18mm again with the speaker cut out then covered over!

if it wasme i'd use the crpet for speaker boxes sold at most places like strathfield or jb hifi, while it looks neat it's very thin and wouldn't muffle the sound at all

yeah my gf has this for the 7x10s in her swift. they are just covered in a thin cloth but the problem with that is light reflects off the speakers at certain angles and you can see them through the cloth. only cost like $120 from alberts as well.

That's interesting - I've never had that problem though - I think I doubled it up from memory (I don't remove it, so can't remember - LOL)

How about what my mate does in his car to cover a subby and two 7x10's. Just buy some auto carpet, cut it to the same shape as the shelf and when you leave the car, chuck it over the whole shelf. Cant see anything, looks as good as a carpeted shelf without speakers.
