I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with VDO or VDO Dayton car audio? I've heard its a quality brand to match its price tag but I can get it discounted so I was just wondering if anyone knows if they are actually any good
Yeah i've never had an issue with my 6x9's... they're the top of the line and they're fine.
I've used a set of 4" 3-Ways for my cousins car and he hasn't had a problem either.
I USED TO WORK FOR A CAR ACCESSORIES COMPANY ANS WE DEALT WITH VDO HEAPS.
ANYTHING FROM SPEAKERS TO TRACKING SYSTEMS
IF YOU CAN GET IT FOR CHEAPER ID DEFINATELY GO FOR IT
WHY BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE AND HAVE KENWOOD, PIONEER, KICKER ETC (MYSELF INCLUDED IN THE LIST!!! )
YOU COULD PROBABLY GET BETTER SOUND AT THE END OF THE DAY RATHER THAN HAVING SPENT A FORTUNE ON A "POPULAR" KNOWN BRAND!
GOOD LUCK WITH THE SYSTEM!!

There is no longer a Philips Car Systems.
And all new products from VDO Daytona are there own, and as such must be rated on their merits and not those of Philips Car Systems.
Story goes as follows:
VDO originated in germany, started shipping in gauges to USA, built a factory and a Name in USA, Mannesman bought VDO.
In 1998 Mannesman VDO bought Philips Car Systems(not Philips electronic).
Mannesman then sold off alll its owned companies to either Vodaphone, Siemens or Bosch.
Siemens bought VDO,merged VDO with its automotive branch, renamed it Siemens VDO.
Siemens VDO had to make new licencing contracts with philips over certain car system products(navigation, it's early line of car audio), so created VDO Daytona for its car audio and navigation products.
I have a funny feeling that Blaupunkt has somethin to do with Philips too yeah ??
My bros got vdo 6x9's they are fine, and look nice too !
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
VDO is actually the company behind designing those fancy lil clusters we all have in our VLs (and many other commodores too for that matter)
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
yes that is a different vdo.
anyway , vdo dayton make some very impressive audio gear , cd players with speed alerts and all other **** built in. very high priced but.
well i got a set of philips splits that absolutely ****en rock. And they're from the bunch of car audio products where VDO Dayton gear was exactly the same as philips gear. My flatmate also has a set of 6" coaxials, and they're probably the best sounding 2 ways i've ever heard. All this is from last season though, so I'm not sure what is on offer now days.
No, sorry the same VDO.
VDO was a german company, who originally shipped guages and stuff to the USA. After a huge uptake VDO built a factory in USA, which took over all the guage work.
In the early 1990's a company called Mannesman merged with VDO.
The company was renamed Mannesman VDO.
In 2001 Mannesman VDO was sold to Siemans. (Siemans as in the mobile phone guys). Siemans merged it with their Automotive branch and changed it's name to Siemans VDO.
Siemans VDO is one of the largest suppliers of these type products in the world.
