i recently bought an amp for my sub. the amp is 2x200 watts(not RMS) and i had it bridged to 400w. the first night i run it it worked great, but by the end of the night my sub kept on turning off and wouldn't come back on till i turned the amp off then on again. i tried not bridging it and ran the sub at 200w, it worked alright for a few days but is now turning off when it gets to loud. my sub is only one of those $40 12inch tornado subs from strathfield and is rated at 350w max. is my sub stuffed or is it my amp?
its a $40 buck sub dude... one voice coil. I don't know for sure whats going on, but it sounds a bit like the amp's protection circuit is kicking in. There may be a fault in your sub causing it to draw too much current from your amp.
I don't think its overheating because it has a cooling fan in it and it cuts out instantly if the volume to high, but it could be some other fault in the sub though making it cut out. i tried connecting up my friends MTX sub and it worked good but i only had it in there for a few minutes so its hard to tell.
I aint an audio expert but from what it sounds like, the sub has been overdriven and killed and it is a cheap one, and when it has been overdriven the sub is cliping on the magnet wich is causing the + and - to touch wich can cut the amp out to protect it, could have burnt the voice coil, id sugest save ur $ and buy a new sub a real one.

Either that (what richie said) or as the coil of the sub heats up the resistance gets larger and the amp doesn't like that and goes into protection mode, easiest fix is a new sub, a better one
