Gents,
Im going to buy a VL Calais Turbo Cluster and was wondering what is not going to work, as I own an 86 executive auto with the standard speedo and analog clock setup?
Also is there anyway of telling if the cluster has come from a VL calais turbo?
Thanks,
JR.
The Oil Pressure Guage won't work, it will simply stay on Full all the time, unless you get an Oil Pressure Sender Unit as well...

Easy to do .. I got a sender with my dash and a calais upper harness (not 100% needed) .. replace the oil pressure switch on your engine with the sender, and feel around up under the manifold. You'll find a blue wire tapped up to the harness. Untape it, bring it down, and plug it onto the new sender. Then tape the old one up there and you should be done. Some people argue you need the calais upper harness for it work, but I'm not 100% sure .. unfortunaly I cant say for sure as I changed over my harness before I put the sender in .. one up side seems to be the "PWR light comes on when you floor it" feature, which I didnt have before changing harness ..
Make sure you get a 6 cylinder dash, otherwise your RPM will be wrong, the dash part is just screw out screw in, easy

Actually mine had a sticker on the back saying to suit 6 or 8 cyl engines .. so perhaps series II dash's could sense? or an idiot put the sticker there?

The tacho bit yes. The tacho cluster also has a oil pressure gauge which needs the above mentioned changes made. If you mean as in actually pulling the cluster apart and changing the module inside it to a tacho, I'm not 100% sure, but I rekon it probably will .. not 100% sure if the PCB for the non tacho one is the same ..
So itz just a remove and fit kinda and the taco will work.
Is there ne rewiring i need 2 do or is there already a outlet for fitting a taco?
How does the amp gauge work? will that work when i plug in the wires behind the cluster?
What else wont work on there calais cluster?
Il get a oil sender or whateva it is 4 the oil gauge.
all the wires are there ...... well they should be holden doesn't go to the effort to make different wiring looms for each different model ..... they use a basic loom then at clips. an average non calais vl has about 40 wires behind the dash they never use and don't connect to anything.
okay dude, i have just fixed my oil pressure sender after having the same problem you have. executive VL, calais dash. the oil pressure sender needs to be changed to a progressive rate one, ($25 off the forums) and the clip that's taped up under the inlet runners has to be untaped and attached. (20 seconds work)
the wiring is the tricky part. on the back of the dash cluster, there is a black plug with heaps of wires in it. number 2 (on the diagram of the plug, found on the back of the dash also) is the wire that is absent on your exec or SL, whatever. it sends the signal to the (usually absent) oil pressure guage on your new dash. you need to take the plug out of the "low oil pressure" spot and refix it into the "oil pressure sender" plug designation. this will cure your problem.
let me know how it goes, it's not that easy to get the little plug out of the black harness!
I swapped my cluster for that of the tacho type and plugged all the wires in but my tacho didnt work. What does the tacho run off? is it the computer or something else coz i have an aftermarket computer. Anyone have any suggestions?? I don't even mind running new wires to it if i have to. I just dont know where the third wire goes. I assume one is positive, one is negative but where does the third wire go?? thanks.
if you have aftermarket ecu the tacho wont work as far as i know. theres a spare wire on the left front side of the engine with a small white plug on it that sends an RPM signal, just wire your tach into that. its actually there for tuning purposes, but meh

That's funny. It should work. When I rolled my VL formula I'd taken the dash out of it.(speedo & tacho dash). When I brought my next VL it was a SL with the speedo & clock. When I replaced the dash all of the wires where allready their. So it was just a simple plug in play job. Double check your wires going to the distributor.
