Hi everyone, Ive been having some woes with my NA 3.0 .. It all started when I was driving along, and suddenly felt a big loss of power, as though I was only running on a couple of cylinders, tonnes of black smoke started coming out of my exhaust, I barely managed to get it home. The NRMA came and had a look at it, everything seemed to come good when he fiddled with the connectors on my CAS and coolant temp sensor. The problem eventually returned only not as bad as it was the first time. On advice from MIDAS I replaced my high pressure fuel pump.. which seemed to fix things for two days, then again, the problem returned. So I took it to Holden to diagnose. They say that 4 things were causing the lack of power and poor fuel consumption: leads, dirty throttle body and injectors. My question is: how hard would it be for me to pull the throttle body and injectors off and clean them out myself? I understand cleaning injectors will probably need some special equipment - is it usually better to just replace them with new? If my throttle body is all carboned up is this possibly a result of another problem? Any input much appreciated. Nick

Cleaning your throttle body can be done relitivly easily, and will help things out. As for the cause, not too sure. I used to run alot of Ultimate fuel in my old N/A and it seemed to build up alot of crap from that. As for injectors, for memory you could get new ones on an exchange thing for like $150 i think. Cleaning them can be done with something like Wynns Spitfire or Nulon injector cleaner, i'd still have them checked though.

Sorry if this is a silly question but is that $150 per injector or $150 for 6?

That i dunno... never done it, if you do a search i am sure something will come up about this.

Interesting that you should mention fuel - Ive been running mostly premium for the past year or so - has anyone else noticed carbon buildup in their throttle body when using prem?

Now you mention it... they did say something about that on a mates VP Calais.... and he runs Ultimate all the time to. I'm goin home now to pull my throttle body out and clean it up. I'm fitting a 68mm one anyway so...

I pulled my NA injectors out yesterday, the tips on half of them were melted, some bits of plastic had broken off and were lodged in my intake manifold. Ive replaced these NA injectors with a good set of turbo injectors (+ECU) and it is running a hell of a lot better low down, though it still wimps out once the revs get to around 4000. Im thinking maybe my fuel pickup is suspect as it sounds like my high pressure pump is merely pumping air sometimes.

as for the injectors jsut get them serviced from a injector servicer anywhere from 150 and up. as for the throttle body its gets dirty no matter what fuel u use and it gets dirty becasue there is nuttin but air going throue is no petrol to clean it like it would it it was a carby car.it has to do with the fact that the oil breather hose goes to the intake and oil occasionnalyy goes up it and stays in the intake for there is nuttin to make it go away till u clean it. Use Nulon Carby cleaner, its the strongest and the best. We have tried heaps at work and know now that Nulon is the best for the thrott body. Get injs sonically cleaned

VLExec88 why would you put turbo injectors and ecu in? i'd be guessing that it'd need a good dyno tune to run correctly if there is no turbo!

Natho, this is the first step in eventually putting a T3 on. My injectors needed replacing anyway, so I figured rather than pay to get the existing ones serviced it would work out better to go straight to the bigger injectors.

that makes perfect sense then i doubt you'll get it to make as much power as it should until you actually get the turbo on. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Natho: hmm whys that?

because the turbo ecu is tuned for the turbo cam and having boost, it'll probably run a bit rich and have retarded timing over the n/a mapping.

hmm interesting because I am having a problem atm where I am running rich, though I had the problem (worse) before I changed the injectors + ECU.. so Ive been trying to find a fault elsewhere (CAS, O2 sensor, fuel supply).. If my O2 sensor was operating properly shouldnt it adjust the mixtures if its running rich?
