well i bought my car and i was driving it and it seemed to have a good amount of bottom end power. then one day i took it to a local mech and he turned it. when i went for a drive i noticed it had lost a bit of power down low. one day i was at the lights a little 1.3 litre laser pulled up and we had a drag it took off and from the start i just did not have enough power down low to even beat him since that day i have been dissapoint. could anyone please help me give it more bottom end power.

also if my car is running rich is it because the timing is retarted. because some of my friends say my car is running rich and i wonder if because i need to advance the timing to get it to run better.

for a second I though your car had been 'turned' to the dark side or something. definately check the ignition timing

Ignition timming would be my first look, Cold air intake and decent air filter will help too. And a 5 speed if its an auto, trust me on that one Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i'd say your mechanic has retarded the timing.. but if you wanna spend some money but a 4.11 diff in and maybe even a cam/chip combo...

What year model laser was it? Do you mean a 1.6 or 1.8? The later model DOHC 1.8s go ok but a VL should still beat them off the mark, mid range and top end without a doubt. A 1.3 charade with 5spd exhaust and extractors on the other hand should give you a pretty decent run if it only has one person in the car and the driver is a P plater revving the tits of of her.

cold air intake, advanced timing, genie extractors, 2 1/2" exhaust....thats bout all part from other minors which i wouldnt think would play too much of a part in performance
