I've got a problem with my MF5 gearbox (5 speed NA box). Since i've put it in, (did an auto - manual conversion) after driving for while, the trans tunnel gets really freaking hot. I've never heard of a manual box over heating before. Yes it does have plenty of oil, and the right grade. I've also put some Nulon gear treatment in it too. Any reasons why?

Did you remove any insulation from the floor? The boxes do get hot, my transmisson tunnel gets hot too, its a factory manual..

So its normal? No i havn't removed any insulation, but the car was an auto, so maybe theres more insulation on manuals? and JET-6, not sure what your trying to get at there...but it gets hot just taking it easy, no trashing.

mine heats up heaps as well...converted 5spd...last night i was talking to a mate who knows ****loads about these cars (he's blown 6 vl gearboxes in his time lol) and he says the heat is no problem at all, he's melted his phone more than once resting it on the console apparently!
