Hey
I was wonderin if any of you guys have had trouble with VL Exec diffs. The last month or so my exec has been making a whine noise between 60 and 80 when just crusing. I've been told to what the man thought is a certainty that its my diff. He reckons to fix it up it can cost up to 800 bucks and ya can most likely get a decent one from a wrecker for about 200.
Also he said that it can worsen with hard acceleration 8O
Has anyone had this problem? Any handy hints? Obviously I'm gona wack the thing it myself and say screw the 800 bucks but is it actually gona be the diff or is he sh*ting me.
thanks
try having your diff blow while you're on the road... go get it rebuilt with a better ratio.. i've had a guy tell me he can do it for 550 with 3.9:1 gears. *shrugs*
wot!!!!!!!!!!
u guys are getting ripped!!!!!
i bought a second hand diff from drum to drum for $90
i changed the gasket and got the mechanic to bolt it up for $90
did that about a year and a half ago and still all swoit
this is a commodore, keep your eyes peeled on the side of the road for diffs laying around j/k
I had to get a new diff when I blew the one in my parents toyata went to the wreckers and picked up one for $200 - they seem to bee all around that price there, for a single spinner anyway.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

man up here in brissy we can pay up to like $350 for an open centre diff.

yeah, i've done 4 diffs in 2 years of owning my VL.
i wouldn't pay more than $50 for a second hand diff...
i put a full disc LSD rear end in rebuilt from the ground up for $1200.
thats new hemisphere, new cones, straightened housing and axles, new discs and calipers etc.
took me an hour to fit...
replace the whole housing and its an hour or so's job.
make sure the housing isn't bent though, measure from one end of the diff to the other (drum to drum) on the top and bottom of it and if its more than 2mm out don't buy it.
happy hunting.
