I have a tape deck out of an EF Falcon in my car and I am going to build up my sound system. I am going to get 2x 12in subs in a sealed enclosure and possibly 2 amps for a start and I dont know where to take the input from for the amps. Do you just piggyback from the rear speakers or do you run new wire from the front? I cant afford a head unit at the moment and I want a fair bit of bass for a start. The radio doesnt have any outputs so I'm a bit confused. Cheers, Jas. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Does your amp have high level inputs?? if so you can just tap in to the speaker wire and run them to the high level inputs on the amp if your amp doesnt have high level inputs (or even if it does) the better option is to go out and buy a line level converter which will convert the speaker outputs to RCA's which u then just run to the amp

Oh yeah, if I run 2 amps will I need to run seperate speaker wire for each amp?

depends on whether or not one of your amps has RCA lineouts on it. If it does You can simply daisy chain the 2 amps together. If not you can get some RCA splitters and run them from the line level converter to each of the amps

Just wondering, can you put two subs in the one box like this ? Do you just double the reccomended box volume? I'm new to this stuff and I need as much help as i can get. Thanks. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yes you can put the two subs in the same box however it would be best to then put a divider in the middle of the box, thereby making two separate enclosures

Well its in my EB so its got 60/40 split seats and I'm just going to mount them behind there. ive measured it all up and its gonna fit sweet as.

ok, well when mounting the amps, u might want to secure mdf to the back of the seats first and then mount the amps onto the mdf. Be careful where the screws go into the seats also cuz u dont want them protuding in to the seat and possibly stabbing sum1 if too much pressure is put on the seat eg car accident. What amps are you gonna run?? what is the rest of your system like??

Well i'm just sorting out what i need at the moment. Tomorrow im heading off to the audio shop to buy all this stuff Would you be able to list all the stuff i will need to hook it all up? I cant really think of much more than power/input/driver power wires, subs, amp(s?) connectors and fuses. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

first you will need power wire. I'd say 4ga from the battery to the boot, then into a 4ga - 2x8ga distribution block runnin 8ga to each amp(keep each run short as possible) then use the same size wire for the ground. you will also need a remote wire to run from your deck to the amps, 20ga wire shud be fine for this. Then obviously you will need you speaker wires from the amp to the subs. Probs go around 12-14ga for this (personally i have 8ga power wire as speaker wire to my sub but thats overkill). Do you already have the sub box or are you gonna make one?? PS oh yeh u also need an inline fuse holder for the power wire. If you can afford it go for the ANL type as they are of higher quality than AGU fuses. The power wire shud be fused around 6" from the battery.

My mate is a cabinet maker so he's gonna do that for me. How do you make the box completely sealed on the joins?

By the way, the subs facing close to the amps wont hurt them will they?

um well u can use many different sealants. I use selleys no more gaps on the joins of my boxes however you can use fibreglass as well among other things. And no, facing the subs close to the amps shouldnt really be a worry. However if you're going for louder more boomy bass you're probably going to be better facing the subs towards the rear of the car (rear loading) as this usual increases loudness in sedans

Oh, ok. Sounds like a good idea! wouldnt it sound muffled tho?

no not really, i rear load my sub in the VL and it souns much better like that than when facing forward. Definately louder. u have the advantage of the seats folding down also so more of that bass can flow through into the cabin. If you can, try listening to it both ways and decide for yourself which sounds better. With the subs facing into the cabin the bass will probably sound more punchier.
