i decided to change my plugs and leads today since the leads had the year 1988 stamped on them and by looking at the condition of the plugs, id say they were close to, if not, originals themselves. plugs 1-5 were a little dirty but nothing major. Then i pulled out number 6 and the arm-like electrode had broken off and the button-like electrode was virtually non-existant. would it be a fair assumption to make that this plug was no longer sparking and making the car run on 5 cylinders only? once everything was replaced i went for a spin and the difference was quite noticeable....car felt smoother and definitely went harder. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The spark won't jump if there's no electrodes, so it would have been on 5 cylinders

well, the arm wasnt completely broken off....half of it was. could there be any possibility of spark? had the car a few months and IF it was like that before i got it i would have been none the wiser. bloody hell, just my luck! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i think both my calais turbos have had factory leads marked 1987 when i got them. i got magnacore 8.5mm leads for this one and it didnt make a noticeable difference...

Can anyone tell me why my #6 cylinder spark plug gets dirtier quicker than the others? Also seems to get oily residue on it..

#6 and #1 running slightly leaner than the rest due to being on the periphery of the cylinder block maybe?

that would only be true if you were running an extra injector at/near throttlebody. each cylinder has its own injector so should all get equal fuel.

dr00 yeh, equal fuel, but not equal amounts of intake air due to bad plenum design
