Back-fires cause damage to AFM?

I'm guessing it would, but is there any chance a backfire would damage the AFM? or is it kinda built to withstand that, incase it happens? Had a nasty one the other day, damaged the airbox too, gotta find a new one (PM me if youv got one for sale ..) .. blew out 2 spots on the lips around where the lid and box join, and ripped one side of the duct taping over the old intake hole (air now comes in from hole in bottom via CAI). Also the meshes on the AFM seem to be blown a bit out of shape too. Just wondering if its bad enough to cause this kind of damage to the plastics of the housings, would it have caused any damage to the AFM? I'm contemplating removing the meshes on the AFM later on, to help flow a bit better with the K&N filter and CAI, but havnt yet .. will inspect it closer then .. anything to look for that would be a sign of damage?

WOAH, sounds like it was a pretty big back fire there 8O Backfiring certainly is not good for the AFM as it causes excess heat in the element, weakaning it (or even breaking it when it cant take it anymore) so if you car has the bad case of backfiries then you are bound to be going through a few afm unless fixed.

How does a VL backfire unless it is on LPG? Ive owned two of them one n/a, one turbo and Ive never had a backfire ever. Im not the most placid driver either. Just wondering casue a lot of people seem to have em.

Yeah, is on LPG. NA VL on Dual fuel .. nothing special about it .. just on very rare occasions it can Backfire on cold starts, and this most recent one was a particularrly loud one, and has done this damage to the airbox. So far the car seems to be driving as well as normal, but I'm contemplating getting a spare AFM to keep handy, just in case Its never backfired or anything like it for me on Petrol, so I'd say its just an LPG thing. I read its most easily caused by pumping the pedal as you start the car .. which your not meant to really do on an EFI car anyway .. so .. I dunno (But of course, when running on LPG the car isnt EFI anyway .. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
