SR20DET OR RB20DET WITCH WOULD BE EASIER THAN THE OTHER TO DO AND ENGINE CONVERSION WITH INTO A CAR .NOT A POSSIBLY A VL
JUST TALKING ABOUT WHICH HAS MORE ENGINEERING INVOLVED IN FITING TO AN ENGINE BAY ? EG SENSOR FITTING, POLLUTION GEAR, WIRING HARNESS , ENGINE MOUNTS.
ANY LL PROBLEMS AT ALL INCOUNTED WITH YOUR ENGINE CONVERSION ?

Dont put a fricken SR20 in a VL
RB20 is the better option for sure, but RB25 is better and RB26 better again, stick with the RB series bro 8)

Not really an answer to your question but:
A while back i had a E30323i 2-door BMW, i looked into both SR and RB 20's
Didn't really come down to Ease of conversion (sr20 smaller - easy to work with)
But more of weight distribution...
for the BMW, an RB20 would be fairly heavy on the nose of the car, yet the SR20 being a fair bit smaller & lighter, has to sit a fair way back in the engine bay, so you get heaps of weight taken off the front wheels, which is both good and bad?
What car is it going into?
for the record, if I was to go ahead, SR20 worked out to be the weapon of choice, but in the end decided to turbo the 2.3L BMW motor.

HSV2ME - it all depends on which car you want to do the conversion with. It's a very vague question. When you decide what car then post it and you will get a better answer from people.
VL - Dont put either engine in. Minimum is an RB25 into a VL. You will regret putting an RB20 in. Listen to RooF, no SR20 either.

id say there would be a similarly large amount of engineering to fit either engine in a mini moke. the rb would be much easier to put in a VL. be much more difficult to fit an rb in a silvia than sr. what car is it going in?

i've been in a vl with an rb20... only had an rx7 cooler and apparently the r33 skyline chip.... also a 5 spd box... running on 12psi, the car more then impressed me..
i couldnt beleive how well it went... and like they say the car revs its arse off..
he reckons it would run high 13s in that form, i dont think he'd be far off with the estimate either going off other vlt's i've been in...
cheers

two door lj torana . just thought question might of been a bit touchy in a vl turbo forum. and yes this question is in a torana forum. just in general wanted to know which was a less complicated engine to play with. no need to know about handling.

its all holden... lj = rb series they are 6cylinder and cheaper also

LJ Torrie, go the 6pot every time. Although like I said before, the 25 engine is the better way to go.

24-12-02, 07:22 GMT+10#10 what about an fj20 , dude put whatever engine u want in there , they will all be ok , it comes down to money, availability and what you want.

24-12-02, 08:47 GMT+10#11 FJ20's are getting on now and are getting abit rarer to find. Not impossible but the sr20 is more readily available.
Drop a Dodge Viper engine into it. Nothing screams power like an 8lt V10.
Then again, jsut do whatever you feel comfortable doing and can afford. 8)

24-12-02, 10:03 GMT+10#12 A conversion like this is something you want to do once and once only.
Investigate and find out what is the better option. Personally, ide go a vl turbo RB30ET engine, and thers a torana running 10s with this setup. If you want availability, then you cant go wrong with a rb30 aussi engine.

27-12-02, 23:10 GMT+10#18 yeah thought about the vipper motor then moved onto the Ferrari Enzo motor (485 kw @7800 and 657Nm @5500) but done the figures and there a little out of the projects budget :!: :!:

27-12-02, 23:30 GMT+10#19 Well for a conversion that no one else has performed, have you considered the new Bentley 16 cylinder into your VL? I hear thats a fairly straight forward swap and isnt hard to get complianced. Then just hang a pair of Trust T88-34D's off the side. Cubes and boost, the best of both worlds.
Avoid the Ferrari, just a glorified Fiat.

29-12-02, 19:06 GMT+10#20 Why would you put a 4 cylinder 2.0 turbo into a VL when they came out with a 3.0 6 cylinder turbo? I know the SR20 is a good motor but come on man. RB20 is sweet though, the note of it is much better than an SR too which tend to sound like they are trying too hard, which they are.
