My auto VL seems to be having trouble revving past 4500 rpm. When left in drive or put in 1st it doest seem to want to rev any higher than 4500rpm (sounds really strained). Its basically stock at the moment. If anybody has any ideas it would be much appreciated. Cheers

yeah mines sort of like that, today i stomped on the accelerator round a corner and she went upto 5100 but generally mine never goes past 4500 ish, of the vls i know, sounds normallish , maybe your kickdown cable needs readjusting nothing serious.

Check your exhaust. you could have a semi- blocked muffler or cat. does it loose power? this happened to me but at about 3000rpm. my cat had broken down and a piece got stuck halfway down the exhaust. Its probably a different problem though with you but its something to try!

Mine has the same problem, except seems hard revving it past 4000rpm, I ve gutted the cat, changed air filters and the rest of the exhaust seems good to, does anybody have any ideas :?: Also at what speed and rpm does everyones VL auto change speed in 2nd, just wondering Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I had the same problem with BeefsVL... had a highflow cat etc, took it off for a burnout comp (so extractors were dumped).. when i put it back on, i didnt seal it, so air was getting in and igniting the exhaust gasses as it came through, melting my cat - had a large chunk come out and got it stuck 1/2 way down the exhaust (happened after a bit of thrashing the car around)... went to drive it the next day and it was GUTLESS... struggled to rev at all, and sounded very constipated... took it to a mate at an exhaust shop who retrieved all the bits of cat out of the exhaust, bashed the rest out and put it back on empty until i could find / afford a new cat for the car (which i now have on there)

The RB30 is a very square motor and was never made to rev particularly hard. "Square" means that the bore and stroke are very closely matched which makes for a good all rounder motor. A good mix of torque and power but not a screamer like a Alfa.

i have the same problem, every now and then it revs up to 5grand, but other times kindof rev's and changes at 4grand which is a **** when running someone and the car suddenly bogs down and putters along like a gemini on its last legs. after putting a pod filter in its kindof fixed the problem, but still happens now and again. i've f*cked my exhaust, so maybe thats the area i should be now concentrating on!
