i was wondering if there is any advantage in running pulp in an n/a vl. if there are what are they better milage or better performance? the only place that sells pulp in my town is bp is theres worth getting? also if i decide to run pulp do i need my car tuned to suit it? if i do is it easy to do yourself or do i need to take to a mechanic? any way theres just a few questions about it cause some people have told me they get upto 100-150 extra km's out of a tank when running pulp. oh yeah and do u think it is worth while in your n/a if u have run it and it was crap or if uve run it and it was sweet could u say.

i have been running it for the last 4 weeks or so and have been getting extra km's out of each tank (around 100km)As for performance i'd say there is a small increase nothing worth bragging about.I use caltex just because it is more convienient, but i have heard that bp is pretty good CHEERS :P

Advance your timing to 20deg then use PULP to make the most of it. You will have better economy only if you dont use the new found power to often (thats hard). But 100+ks extra seems a bit optimistic. IMHO. You will notice torque & response loss when ya go back to ulp.

whith advancing the timing how do u do it cause ive heard alot of people talk about it but i wouldnt have a clue how to do it. if i advance the timing is this going to work better than if i use pulp with it set up normal? could some1 explain how to do it do i need a timing light?

you dont REALLY need a timing light, but it is a good idea to use one.. there is a bolt on your dizzy that when loosened, will allow the dizzy to rotate back and forward. loosen the bolt, start the car, and use the timing light to see what the timing is set to (should be on 15 degrees standard), move the dizzy round very slowly till its 20 degrees (make sure u've put the PULP in first). Do the bolt back up (making sure the dizzy doesnt move) and go for a run around the block - listen for pinging, if it pings back off immediatly and take it easy back to home and take the timing back a few degrees. If no pinging, all is good - you should be able to feel a slight bit extra punch off the line that what you had before. Can someone else confirm that turning the dizzy anti-clockwise will advance the timing ????

Turning the dizzy back towards the firewall advances the timing. Turning it towards the radiator retards the timing. As far as PULP goes, if it is BP premium unleaded it wil only be a 95 RON octane rating. If it is BP Ulitmate it will be 98 RON. I wouldnt play around too much with the timing if you can only get 95 RON. The extra milage fuel is basically the 98 octane stuff, BP Ultimate, Optimax etc. so just check before you fill if you really want to know. cheers.

yeah - if you are looking at it from the side where the leads are - you turn it clockwise and anticlockwise to retard it. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ahhh thought i had it mixed up... clockwise = advancing, anticlockwise = retarding.

so i should only play around with the timing if i get the 98 stuff i duno which we have here cause my town has only just got it.(yes pay my town out if u want) with the pinging i have never heard a motor ping before so i duno what it sounds like but im pretty sure its something u'd notice if u heard it (is that right). anyway thanks for ur help so far.

Pinging basically sounds like a handful of marbles rattling around in your donk.. YOu wil notice it if it happens, beleive me.. put your car in a gear higher than needed (ie: 2nd from verly low speed in an auto, maybe third in a man.), and floor it.. you'll hear it, trust me.. if you do, take it easy back home and re time.

Even easier way, take first gear out to about 3 grand slowly, like make sure you are doing about 20k/hr, then nail it and wind it out to red line. You'll hear it if its present.
