My VL calais turbo had developed a tick slight at first.
But in the last day or so it has become really bad and loud!
It increases as the revs increase. Like tick tick tick to tick tick ticktickticktick ****in tick.
It has not hurt the performance of the car but it makes it sound like a bucket of ****. Any theories on my engine noise would be greatly appreciated?
Cheers Cameron.

Maybe the noise could be the dreaded Lifters?, they go fairly often on Vl's.

i was told it was the fuel injectors

I'll throw my two cents worth in, and vote for injectors. I had a problem like that, put a couple of tanks of PULP and a bottle of spitfire in and that fixed it up.

Lifters, if its loud its lifters, if its light tick tick's its injectors

Stuffed lifters make a more obvious metalic tick, tick noise.

17-12-02, 23:56 GMT+10#13 check your harmonic balancer and dont load the engine (towing or burnouts) till you get it sorted out.
i thought it was lifters and injectors, then one da y.... BOOM, harmonic balancer broke loose stopping powersteeering, waterpump and everything.

19-12-02, 13:01 GMT+10#16 I had the same problem so I took it to my mates workshop and be said pop the hood. He looks under the hood and around the back of the car and says no. 5 & 6 exhaust studs are cracked and air is getting pushed out and making the ticking noise. Had to get the studs drilled out new studs cost about $25 the car now perrs like a kitten , so check all the exhaust studs as well

19-12-02, 23:24 GMT+10#17 That could be the go whiteBT1 because it is louder on the exhast manifold side of the motor it just could be that.
Hopefully it is that and not the internals.
thanks everyone for your help keep you posted with the verdict.
Cheers gibbo.

that was with the old engine, most people I talked to said I would need a new crankshaft but I had a mate perform some impressive welding and made a new hole for the woodfuff key. filed it until it was perfect shape and it fixed it perfectly.

21-12-02, 19:00 GMT+10#20 yeh i have the same prob, only when the oil gets oldish (close to 5000kms) and sometimes at cold start up and its more than likely the lifters.
