hey guys, been a fan of the site for ages, never had a reason to post n e thing though, until now, ok, i have a 86 n/a berlina, bought it a few months back and everything was sweet except for the transmission, the 4 spd auto was about to **** itself, and still is, so i've been driving fairly carefully until i can afford a new gearbox, which i'm getting close too (uni student, not much money in the pocket ) but yeah, i hear all you guys talking about the jatco boxes and was wondering where the best place to get one from would be, and also an approximate pricerange. any help would be great, and i'd really appreciate it macky Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Well, it all depends on your circumstances. I get the feeling that your car isnt making insane amounts of power and isnt going to be modified in the near future. In the case of you just wanting a standard jatco box i'd say if your into doing things youself (most people around here are.. especially the uni students.. ) Then go to a wrecker and buy yourself a used/Reco Jatco box. I know moneys on your mind but at a self serve wreckers you could pick up a used box for 50 bucks. A reco/newish one at a wreckers could be had for 250. If your feeling like you wanna lash out you could even rock up and ask that they swap the boxes for you, ive seen standard jatco boxes installed for 400 on an exchange basis. Good luck -Hatter (p.s have you thought about a 5speed conversion?) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Well, if it slips thru some gears, you can crank it open and tighten the belts if they are loose and it will magically fix your problem! (done it on a mates gearbox, totally fixed it). But sometimes, expecially when it changes violently, you've lost gears completely and it makes funny noises.. it needs a complete rebuild.

yeah, thanks guys for the info, i should have explained it a bit better well, i had it serviced about a month or so ago and it didn't fix the problem, my mechanic told me it looked like it had seen better days, and suggested i think about getting a new one, so yeah, was just asking for advice from those who know the score (you guys). n e way, yeah, it aint pulling massive power output, so the used jatco sounds the go, thanks again for ur advice Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i just picked up a new gearbox for my car today - 2nd hand... turbo jatco 4sp, strong shifts, serviced not so long ago, unsure of but feels like theres a shift kit in it, 3000 rpm stally, came with all the small bits like flex plate, trans computer, cross member - all for $300... the bargains are out there.. just need to look around and wait for the right time Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
