hey guys and girls, im looking 4 a set of 6x9s or 7x10s for my car. ive currently got a smallish kenwood 4 chnl amp. My guess is that it would supply perhaps 30wrms per channel. Im not looking to go all out money wise. perhaps under the 200 mark. Im interested in some JL ones at the moment they have a 60wrms power rating. they are $180. are these speakers too big for the amp. and do u think that the low end JL range would be a better buy than the generic sota brands like pioneer. like the $159 6x9 3ways?

Dude, Pioneer aint a generic brand. They've been at the forefrontof 6x9 technology for a long time and they produce speakers that sound awesome. BUT, I would reccomend a set of JBL 6x9's. They produce a sound that is just sooo smooth and well rounded. That being said, my mate has a set of JL's that sound fantastic too. Your best bet is to shop around as much as possible and listen to all of the speakers you can on sound boards.
Oh, and you might be wasting the potential of 7x10's if you run them off a small amp. If you can get your hands on a much bigger amp, Kenwood's HQ series would be my pick. Those babies go nuts on big power!

personally id say ur better off saving that money and buying yourself a 12" sub. I originally started off my stereo with sum 4" up the front and 6x9s in the rear. that lasted about 3 months b4 i went out and bought a 10" sub because the 6x9's bass just wasnt good enough. Then with the 10" not satisfying me, i now have a 15" sub in the boot. I sold off my 6x9s cuz they sounded ****ty once i got the 15" and now just have sum 6.5" up the front and my 15" in the boot. I found just having the holes in the parcel shelf allowed much more bass to come through. Ditch the 6x9's and go for a decent sub instead. Save yourself money and time in the long run.
And you also dont want all the music to be coming from behind you. Plan out your system first. Get sum decent 6.5" splits up front and the 12" sub in the boot then maybe just sum 4"s in the rear playing softly. You want the music to sound best for you the driver dont you?? not the people sitting in the back.

Yeah this stereo ive got though is not for the long run. My future system doesnt contain anything ive got at the moment. The 6x9s ive got currently are kenwood 2-ways, they distort at all volumes and arnt very clear at all, I borrowed my friends 6x9s just to test if the distortion was the 6x9s and it was. I can grab a set of near new pioneer 3-ways $100. Should i take em? They are 40 wrms so they should match up with the amp ok. Its not bass im really looking for, ive had subs before and they were stolen so im not looking for that. I just want some crystal clear speakers that go that match up with what ive got the best.

Well if you really dont want a sub then yeh id say go for the pioneer 6x9's then. A few of my mates have what sounds like the same model you are planning on getting, in their cars and i would have to say that they do sound alright. And for a $100?? go for it. Just make you make a new a new parcel shelf outta say 9mm MDF and put some padding on the underside of it (to stop the wood rattleing on the metal underneath), then bolt that down and then the speakers into the shelf. should sound better cuz they are mounted into a more sturdy shelf. Theres no need for spacers
