Hi all,
I just got my car tuned vl 6cyl NA and the report came back with the following: (i originally took it in cos i was only getting 350kms per tank)
- radiator loosing water, doesn't know where from did a preasure check and there were no leaks
- radiator cap worn needs replacing $12
- cooling system a bit rust $110
- suspect blocked injectors $330
- recommend replacing cap rotor and leads $180
- timing belt must be replaced every 100,000kms $250
my car has done 193000kms...
what does everybody think about these prices and are they very necesary? any help would be appreciated
thanks guys

i've owned the car for 8 months, and it used to get 500-520 km per tank, now its only getting around 300-350kms per tank

dunno about the rest, but
**recommend replacing cap rotor and leads $180**
leads cost about $50, and the dizzy cap costs about $30 and will take you a whole 5 - 10 mins to put on yourself...
and timing belt costs about $40 for a genuine one at holden - but takes a while to put on... (most of the cost would be for labour for it)...

u might have a cracked head or blown head gasket. is there any sludge under the cap on the rocker cover or under the radiator cap?

MMM, unless you are a complete fool and *must* pay insane prices for someone else to do every little thing to your car then those prices arent good value at all.
As insaneVL said, the parts cost little, and the job is easy for the leads and cap.
You could even replace the blocked injector yourself.
Sounds like this place is hitting you with everything they can. :?
My guess is that your shonky fuel economy is caused by dodgy injectors..

ok thanks guys for the replies.
I'd rather do things myself, just didn't know much about them thats all....
does anybody have a guide to changing the injectors? would i need to change all of them? or just find which one is blocked? (how do i tell which one is blocked?)
with the leads, which are good for an NA? i've heard that BOSCH ones are quite good?
ur thoughts are appreciated
thanks

13-12-02, 11:32 GMT+10#10 I'd say you go down to your nearest automotoive store, and buy a manual for the VL, like a gregories or similar. This will show you how to replace nearly anything, and also how to diagnose it.

05-01-03, 22:43 GMT+10#12 if u need injectors i have a full set that r full reco for $150 there east to fit just fiddley
i would recomend to do the timing belt every $70-80,000k just to be safe and for the sake of like $20 y not also it only takes like an hour to do its piss easy
like the rest of the guys said the leads plugs and rotor button piss eay as well for the cap has the spark plug numbers on them so u cant stuff up there
and the cooling system well thats a matter of just flushing the water out and replacing with coolant and how much is coolent cheap when u think about it so mate all up u r probly up for around $300 if u want my injectors
