i don't believe the turbos will be released in Australia my dad works for holden and said the turbos are for export only, he may be wrong who knows
the up side we have to look forward to is the HFV6 which will be a 3.5l V6 quad cam with around 190kw this will be available 2004 i think
ditto what psicho said. Last I heard the turbo option was for overseas models only.
At least a transplant should be easy - all the new V6 variants are based on the same engine aren't they? there's like a 3.2L, 3.5L, turbo etc
Turbo nahhh only reson holden put em in the VL's where cose they got the engines off nissan. To me Turbos are a cheap way to get more power out of and engine (ford cant develop an engine to match the power outputs of the holdend so what do they do they slap a turbo on it)
Timmy
Timmy you sound like a very well educated young man. NOT!
You obviously arent aware of the Buick Supercharged 3.8L engine in the VS onwards, that produces a claimed 170kw (dont know the actual figure). Now let me inform you that the AU Ford XR6 VCT engine produces 172kw out of the factory, no assistance from forced induction in that little package. The base falcon produced 157kw, the base holden V6 produced 152kw??
Now the base BA falcon produces 182Kw standard and the holden produces 152Kw standard. So please explain why ford's 6cyl couldnt make the power of the buicks V6. I see the figures, i see you stupid brain, and i cant figure out your mathematics.
PS, this is a VL Turbo forum, if you dont like the turbos forced induction why are you here
(sorry its been a long time coming, everyone dishes that sentence to me, so now its my turn  )
YES i do agree with you there. Its not that i dont like turbos or anything i just dont see holden bringing one out in the near future thats just my oppion. I just belive that ford cant get a decent engine out to match the 220KW of the gen III so they get a 6 cylinder and slap a turbo on it so ppl think its got power and buy it cose fords are so **** that no one buys them. (sorry i just bleed hatered toward fords)
Well ford actually re-designed the I6 in australia, and they didnt 'slap
a turbo on it, the engine is fully prepped (if you will) for a turbo charger to be fitted. One thing you will note is that the new I6 does not have a redline in the XR6t, as it pulls hard all the way till fuel cut, the tacho ends at 7000rpm i believe, so you can rev the engine until that point and not care about doing damage, mind you it makes 450nm from 2000-4500 so why you need to rev past there is beyond me!
Also Ford re-designed the 5.4L V8 engine here in australia, and it pumps out 260Kw in the XR8 guise. The SS as you know only has 230/235Kw so i dont see the SS coming anywhere close to the XR8 for straightline, handling or top speed.
The base model ford V8 is rated at 220Kw, yet there had been dyno runs that indicate it much closer to 240Kw. Gen3 is a hunk of **** alloy pushrod oil chewing poof mobile. When they get a real engine start telling me its got power.
Ford design engines and cars. Holden import engines, import designs, build the imported design with a few minor 'touch ups' plonk the engine in and sell it.
Why you hate ford is beyond me, Holden have obviously brain washed yet another little car enthusiast...
OOO one more think the GT Falcon has 290Kw, and FYI the latest GT40 pumps out 375Kw out of an engine which is inferior to the GT Falcon engine. GT40 has more power obviously due to the supercharger sitting on top...
Sorry to invade the thread, some people just have no clue.
PS good work on holden building new V6 engines tho, about time they lifted their game!
Well holden would WANT to bring out something new (or something actually worth upgrading to) otherwise their share of the market might be in quite a bit of danger!
I dunno, they market their cars heaps to companies, taxis, police, government, and I just don't think the turbo would be that popular. Sure it'd sell alright, but when there's an awesome V8 right next to them in the range (the VL range had a Sh*t v8 - thats why peole went for the turbo), and holden have invested a ton of money into the LS1, they'd obviosly want to keep the turbo's (well if they actually do have one) power well below the 8's
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Turbo's tend to have more "expandability" than non-blown v8's though, so any car buyer with half a brain and a wallet would want a turbo holden, that they could boost all **** out of and blow away the equivalent model '8....or am I wrong there? 8)
ford / holden, i dont give a ****.
TO be biased in car choices and brand loyalty is to be brain dead.
If your really skeptical, drive both and see
But i do say, everytime i see a BA falcon, i break my neck twisting it around!
depends if you want somthing thats reliable and as soon as you modify it - your warrenty goes down the drain and your insurance sky-rockets

Heh, true. But think how siiiik it'd be!! 8)
I'm sure we'll see a whole lot of modified BA turbos within a few years, when the warranties have run out anyway...

Arh thats where FPV comes into the game. After your car is built, send it next door to FPV, say i want 18" rims DONE! i want a 3" stainless steel exhaust from the trubo back DONE! i want koni shocks and king lowered springs DONE!
and your warranty is still happy as larry, your cars full sik re, and if you have upgraded enough components your car will now wear FPV badges, and no doubt a plaque under the trust ole bonnet.

Holden definately needs to sit up and take notice of this/lift their game. This kind of service will no doubt sway the opinion of a lot of would be buyers and might even snatch a few holden purists. Im not going to run out and buy a new XR6T (even if I did have the cash) but I just gotta say that as far as Holden mods go, John Crennan and the HSV boys are not the be all and end all as they would have you believe (not bashing HSV either, just saying). This can only improve a healthy competition. Ford deserves top credit.
now Im just waiting to be assassinated by a holden fan for my heretic remarks
