ive got a vl calais 1987,
was wondering how this would sound
pioneer 9450 head unit, pioneer splits (TSC 1625) front and back, both sets being powered by a sony 754 amp...
thats what im getting installed atm ... any thoughts / suggestions etc??
secondly, im after a 12" sub that sounds like 2 12"s...one with lots of punch and power...
ive been told the way to go is jaycar double magnet 12" , and altho it says 250wrms..that putting it up to 350 is amazing as it still pumps out like nothing without losing quality..
not sure tho if this is right.. i have $800 or so to spend on this master 12" sub + amp.... so if u had some suggestions for both id be much obliged,
thx master
Well i dont quite know how much those pioneer splits would be worth, but its a bit of a waste putting them in the back. Whether splits in the back or dual cones, you wouldnt notice the difference in the front. Response ( jaycar ) gear is pretty good stuff. The sub sounds cool, but make sure u have a top amp matching it, otherwise theres no point in a top quality sub. Also the set up in your boot is very important. It would be preferable to get a good quality box (not one of those autobarn specials) because positioning of the sub + brand of box, can make the difference between a **** sounding system to top class.
The 9450 unit reallly kicks arse dude. But pay the extra and get some TSC160R splits for the front. Then just whack some 2 ways or something in the back for rear fill. To keep a good front stage, you really don't want great speakers in the rear.
As for the sub, Alpine Type R SINGLE VOICE COIL subs are excellent. The single voice coil ones are better for loud clean bass than the duals. The DVC's are best suited to SPL applications. If you want your sub to sounds "like 2 12"s", the best you can do is to put them in a box that is larger than normal.
Go a 5 channel amp. The excelon range from Kenwood are killer amps, and there is a 5 channel in there. Rockford also have a 5 channel in their punch and punch power series.
Cheers dude
