Has anyone here tried setting up a 3 way split configuartion in a vl? I want to add 8 inch mid-bass woofers through a 3 way crossover to my existing setup. Would you put the 8 inchers near kickpanels or something? there doesn't sem like a lot of room in vls for 3 ways. If anyone's got any pics of a good setup, can you please post them? cheers all! -Ben

I've never seen a VL with 3 ways yet, but I think you would have to build some huge door pods to fit 8's in.

and also, can some one explain how power ratings on amps work .. like i have a 4 channel amp which is 600 watts total power, but it is 37.5 watts rms per channel .. 37.5x4 doesn't equal 600 .. what's the go ????

Your amp is 150 Watts RMS total. It is 600 Watts PMPO total. PMPO (peak music power output) is the maximum power the amp can put out over a millisecond. RMS (root mean squared) is a continuous rating... the maximum power level that the amp can safely run at all day long. Companies use PMPO ratings for promotional purposes to make the amp seem more powerful than it is. 37.5 WRMS is not a lot, but if you bridge the amp into two channel mode, you'll get arond 100WRMS per bridged channel, and it'll be sweet for a set of splits, or a dual voice coil sub (power both coils). If you buy Soundstream SPL series speakers, they run a 2 ohm, so they'll run really well off your amp as well.

About the 3-Ways, I would say if you can fit the 8"s in the Doors, and if your Mid-Range Speakers were 4" then they should go in the original VL Dash places and you could put your Tweeters up the top of the A-Pillar, I haven't seen it done before, however I have seen Tweeters on the A-Pillar and they sounded great... 8)

i've got 6" speakers in my front doors and they have quite small magnets and _just_ fit but yeah the tweeters sound great up there Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

nah, the setup i really want is either 8" + 5" + tweeter (ideal), or 8" + 6" + tweeter. while 5 inch and 6 inch splits are damn great for focal (type, not brand) speakers, I just want to add an 8" driver to provide serious mid-bass up front.

So I want to know if you can squeeze both an 8" and a 6" (or 5") driver onto your doors...

if you mean just a six inch 3 way, i've seen then mounted in a door with spacers, they look kindof odd, and always seem to get in the way.. In the calias i saw them in, he had to retrim his door because of the "melways" holders in the doors... i suggest just get some 2" in the doors, 6" subs under the seats and 6x9's in the doors and 2 12" subs in the boot (if ya want serious bassige)
