Suppose to say you decide not to run subs. This is assuming you listen to a majority of rock, punk, metal music, some classical stuff, some chilled djing (dj shadow etc) and similar stuff. You dont run a sub, but two (decent depth cone - for at least SOME bass) 6*9s in the parcel shelf, then splits up front, with 4"ers in the old spots, all running off amp/s. Maybe even a couple of coaxials or some sort of rear fill in the rear doors? (this would be a BIG "maybe" - so you can forget that if you want) Would that be dodge? I'm thinking about saving weight, and dont really know if 2 x 12's is going to weight down a car too much...I want to run flat to low 12's in full street trim in the future remember :P

Yes could work out an excellent setup. If you get decent 6x9's and look up the specs you can build a sealed enclosure in the boot below the 6x9's (under the parcel shelf) to suit the 6x9's, this will give you excellent response from the speakers if done properly Ive seen this setup before a couple times where it has seemed like they have a 10" in the boot or something but they dont!!! Amazing stuff when setup properlly Hope you understood that Cheers Chris Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

In my VL, i don't have a sub. My system consists of 2 240watt pioneer 3-way compresion horn 6x9's on my rear shelf, and a set of 6" 3-way 180watt coaxials in the front doors (pioneer competition series) All these are running off an amp supplying each of the 4 channels with 50wrms. This is a nice and loud sounding system. I've been complimented a few times by passengers how clear and full my music is. I dont think you need a sub if you listen to rock/metal/alternative etc unless you want one to have a louder system than your neighbours. The right speakers set up right will give u plenty of nice clean sounds.

Hey guys, I hope you can trust me on this one... I work at Brisbane Car Sound. If you want to save weight, but still get some good clean bass, get your hands on a pair of Kenwood HQ series 7*10's. I'm telling you now, these things are cabable of more bass than you would think. Get sealed enclosures built like Morgz said, and put a LOT of power into them. Screw what the box says their nominal power rating is, get a 4*50wrms amp and bridge it into 2 channel mode for these speakers alone. With this sort of poer, it pays to have a pro set it up for you. You can install everything yourself to save time, but get someone good to tune it for you. Forget about the speakers in the rear doors. I wouldn't even bother with the 4 inchers. Get a nice clean set of splits (Jaycar Rsponse Kelvar Splits, Kicker K series splits, Clarion splits are all great speakers) and run them off a separate 2 channel amp up front. If you want a real kickass system, get a pair of pioneer TSC160R splits and get heaps of power into them. But make sure you get a nice head unit. High voltage pre-outs will put your system a whole notch higher than the same system without high volt pre-outs. Look for around 4 volts. Hope all this helps! Cheers, Ben.

Yep - I have the kenwood 7*10 320 watt ones in my car too I've got a kenwood 800watt 12" sub as well, and I think it sounds really nice... If you want to really have noticable quality, make sure you get splits, they are tehe ones with seperate tweeters, i just stuck mine in my dash mat, but they make music very, very clear Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They'll sound better from an imaging point of view, as the tweeters will help bring the music up closer to your ears. BUT, splits draw more power due to their cossover network, so your head unit will be under powering them. MuderCity, you can install a sub without gaining much weight if you remove your spare tire and replace it with an inflator can!

Yeah, epitaph's gear is serious gear. Really nice stuff. How much power have you got going into them? (oh and don't you mean TSD690R?)

hey, yeah thats the one. i bought em from autobarn and they hooked me up with last years model pioneer amp for $200 cheaper. Runnin About 500W to them i think. you gotta run em off an amp else you'll kill them. the cones are made from what they make bullet proof vests out of. i was impressed when told that. anyway, im running a DEH-6450, TSD016R fronts (6 inch - 225w), TSD690R (6 x 9 - 330w) and a 500w pioneer amp. i got it all for $1900 brand new. i couldnt afford the TSC160R very very sad. that is some serious gear. these speakers are indestructable as long as they're run off an amp. not a bad start to a stereo system for a 17 year old kid i say cheers fellas, i highly recommend this gears, it goes well. Cheers Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

When I first read your post I immediatly thought of some kenwood 7x10's if you want bass without going for a sub and definatly run them of a good amp. I have a set of 4" splits running off the headunit and they sound pretty good but I listened to a set in the shop through the amp and through the headunit and through the amp was definatly better, they were crisper and had a little more volume in them, but only just really. And BurgandyCalais, is that you in your avator :?

Quote: And BurgandyCalais, is that you in your avator Yeah dude! Not meaning to attack you, but you can rip me as much as you like, at least I've got the balls to put myself up there. Its a strange photo though... I was trying to do the People's Eyebrow for my uni ID (thats what the photo is - my ID). But as you can see, I didn't really pull it off. Why do you ask?
