I wouldn't think you'd be able to. There not like aftermartket tacho's where you just cut wires to suit the appopriate number of cylinders. May have to try and get a 6 cyl tacho dash and take the tacho unit out, but still keep your face plate that goes over it for your dash.

Doesnt work, I tried a VL turbo one into my VL V8, tacho is WAAAAAAAY out, even some stuff like oil gauge and temp gauge was rowdy. Something differently set up for the 6 and 8 cylinders 8)

try using a 100ohm resistor, if memory serves me right, thats what my electronic tacho in the ole XF used (prolly different in a VL) but **** whatever works works. resitstor goes in on the rpm line (which goes to the coil)...

True what south has said. But i think it comes down to the simplicity of the XF. look under the bonnet of one and its like, omg how **** is that. But it does the job. A friend of mine has one thats done 390k and its not too bad. Engine doesnt like hills though. XFs are a piece of piss to fix as well and probelems are easily diagnosed. ( talking about carby models )

Nah I was full of it. Took the dash apart and the tacho is so intricate itd be impossible to modify unless you made it yourself. In which case you work at VDO so u could probably score a new one free so u wouldnt bother modifiying an old one.
