i think thats the name of the brand r they any good and what r there subs and amps like there is a package at autobarn of a sub and amp for $300 which sounds like a good deal any1 know if they r any good.
rockford fosgate mate are an excellent brand. renown for their subs. Amps are excellent ttoo. I would put them a notch above pioneer, kenwood sony etc. If u like the deal, defiantly get it, they are top class brand. They are very popuar as well, but they arent your average corner shop brand. If u goto car shows etc, u will find this brand everywhere.
yep, they are definatly probably one of the best brands for subs and amps, they make some pretty awesome headunits that i've seen!

the funnyest thing about it will be when i show up somewhere with the rockford fosgate stuff and every1 say oh that stuffs **** man shoulda got xpload which i know by now tends to be rather dodgey seems every1 in my town still worships sony though.
hehe they are idiots then, Sony are all marketing/style, which isnt exactly what you want in a car.
People buy it because it's bright red lol..
Rockford fosgate are a quality brand, and you'll find most serious car systems use their subs and a lot of the time use their amps as well.
Personally I'd never buy anything pioneer/sony because it's mostly hype and stuff with the brand name.
Alpine headunits are the best, match it with some MB Quart 6" splits in the front and back, both powered by the smaller alpine v12 amp, as well as a huge v12 in the back powering two 12" rockford fosgate, or cerwin vega subs... would be a killer combo I think!

Thats true in part Gavin,
Sony for sure is all about Marketing, they pour alot of money into creating an illusion that their products are good. And its a shame that their marketing budget reflects on the product.
Pioneer on the other hand do make soem good stuff, their competition range is VERY good, and easily up there with RF of Alpine.
The company to watch in terms of Head Units & Stackers, even Amps is JVC. In 2001 JVC released the 900 model head unit, their top model that was put up against the OEL Display Pioneers and some of the Alpine range, without the slightest bit of marketing this head unit took out the best non competition head unit. Word of mouth worked for it because they don't pour huge amounts into marketing.
Personally building a system i would chose a JVC Head unit matched to Kicker Subs powered from a JVC Amp. Splits would be Polk Audio (MOMO Series) Splits.
The problem with the Polk splits is you're talking about $1200 australian for splits, but trust me, these things are probably clearer than the human ear can detect. Quality is AMAZING.
I looked at the JVC range of subs and amps, they just looked cheap to me, like blue lights and plastic going everywhere
I'm very happy with my JVC headunit, problem is the only other model JVC H/U i lke costs over a grand hehe, so thats why i'd have to get an alpine.

Very valid point, they do look cheap with the neons in the amp and sub.
Haven't heard alot about the subs but i know someone who uses a JVC Amp for his splits, excelent sound quality.
The head unit i was after (Pioneer 8450) is like $1400 still.

Hey guys, if you're after a good head unit at a relatively good price, check out the CQDF972 by panasonic. Panasonic have really put an effort into building high quality stuff lately. This unit's got 3 pairs of 5 volt preouts at a ridiculously low 60 ohm resistance! it really is a good unit. For competitions though, head toward Eclipse or Nakamichi gear. They're not much to look at but they've got 24 bit D/A converters... Alpine, Pioneer, Panasonic, JVC, etc all have only 1 bit D/A converters. These converters are a major contributor to sound quality.
Rockford amps and subs are amazing, if a little expensive. Alpine 2 channel amps are super clear. Soundstream don't deal in Australia anymore (as far as i know) but their gear, both amps and subs, are second to none. Their problem, though, is price in a big way. Never actually heard a set of Polk audio splits, but i'm keen to. There's heaps of good word out there about them. Focal Utopia splits are extreme, but so is their price. For a decent price set, check out Pioneer TSC160R's.
But please, keep clear of Sony. They really are ****.
BurgundyCalais, Soundstream actually do still deal in Australia. However, only a select few places deal with it.
They have just brought out their new range of amps and Subs. They now have a Tarantula series, comming from their top of the range Tarantula amp. That stuff is **** Hot.
n/a88VLsl, just remember... U usually get what you pay for.
Even though the $300 package from Autobarn is all Rockford Fostgate, it's probably their entry level equipment.
I'd steer clear from Autobarn when buying car stereo components. U'd be best off going to a specialised joint that only deals with that kinda stuff. Autobarn have just got no idea!
fella here said it best
u dont go to strathfield to buy oil so why would you go to autobarn to buy car stereo stuff, go to the people who specialise in it
I'd just check your sources there Gatecrasher. I realise that there are still a few places selling Soundstream, but this is because they import the stuff. This is what Maroochy Car Sound does in order to maintain such a large brand range (and super high quality equipment might i add). The Tarantula range from Soundstream has been out for at least a couple of years now, however the speakers in the range are new. Your dead right in saying that the stuff is **** hot though. You're also dead right in advising n/a88VLsl to be careful when buying from Autobarn. The Rockford name is cool, but their entry level gear is pretty crap. Go for Rockford punch equipment... or if ur into comps, go the punch power series.
Cheers!
Ben.
yeah i decided against the rockford stuff cause it turned out to be only about a 150wrms amp i think (not 100% on that) and the sub was only 100watts (im pretty sure) any way im getting a 12 inch alpine typ s sub and a 300watt 2 way us audio amp installed on monday ill let yas know how it sounds. this stuff isnt top of the line i know but its the best i could afford and as for not going to auto barn for car audio i talked to one of my mates who has a big competition stereo in his car and he said in my town they are by far the best installers and the only place which is dedicated to car audio and nothing else in my town is very over priced.
thanks for all ur comments ill let ya know how the package goes when its all installed on monday.
Sounds cool dude. I used to have a Type S, and it rocked. I reckon you'll be pretty damn happy with it. And the Autobarn near us has good installers too, but their product range is crap and prices are too high, thats why I warned against them. But if your price is right...
