Hey people! all i simply want to do is have my system regassed. Some bloke told me ( over the phone) that they have to be converted to handle a the modern type of gas. $230 bucks. Another place said $120 but it may be more. The other $120. Is this first bloke lying? Do i have to get my system converted or is it likely it already has been. or is this uttter bullcrap?

if your system has been converted it should have a sticker in your engine bay somewhere saying it uses the new gas. im pretty sure you can still get the old gas as well but its more expensive. quite a few months ago an a/c guy told me the old stuff was getting taxed heaps now so ppl will stop using it. but he also said the new stuff runs at a higher pressure so your a/c stuff wears out a lot quicker.

AH ok. I dont think i have a sticker so ill have a look. Is the old gas bad 4 the environment or something?

the old gas contains CFCs, and yes, bad for the environment/ozone layer stuff. as such, illegal to put into aircon devices now. Doesnt mean you cant get it done .. a lot of places do it, and a cost of a regas of old gas is usually a lot cheaper than retrofit to take new gas + new gas .. but usually if you NEED a regas, youv got a leak somewhere, and most dodgy regas of old gas dont check for leaks and stuff, so you end up pissing it away anyway .. Id suggest getting it regased and converted ... its a once off thing and if you run it at least once a week, you'll never have to regas it again ..

Beware because some places have been or are using LPG instead of the correct gas. It's heaps cheaper for them and they don't tell you that they use it. Obviously very dangerous if you have a leak. So if a place offers a very cheap regas make sure that they don't use LPG.

Because any quote over the phone is useless. Think asabout it, where did your gas go? It leaked! How did it leak? There is a hole! That equals a problem that needs to be fixed. How long hasn't it worked? Quite possible to have more problems.. It all adds up. Now my opinion. * Don't go anywhere that uses the old gas (R-12), the stuff hasn't been made for 8-10 years world wide. * Don't use a blended gas (I can give you reasons but them the post would be way too long) I could keep going, but if you are just going to get a bodgy job done your not going to listen to any good advice. Go ahead but don't whinge on here when it doesn't work in a week/month.

Um actually i found that the red wire on the compressor is loose/disconected!!! i guess this would make a difference ops: there is a loose female green wire near it but it isnt the same colour so im a little hesitant to connect it. This could be my problem aye! The engine was rebuilt a while ago so perhaps something has happened then, thats if it is out of gas. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

mine cost $150, well it would have if I paid them lol... The mentioned it needed a change when it went in for a service, and it was in the middle of winter and I told em not to worry at this stage. but, nooo, they did it anyway, and ended up telling me I could have it for free, i'm not complaining, bloody cold now Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i got mine done for 110 bout a month ago. they had to play aroung with my temp switch because it was rooted. now its on coldest temp but i cant move it. also, the other switches are shagged too. so, i only have speed 1 and speed 4. so tonguey... ur problem is probably a broken / dodgey switch. general motors holden still sell these switches apparently.. but a wreckers is sure to have them (but these are probably ****ed too)
