253s are good motors, the 308 is just one of them bored out they rev higher and are tuff as ****in cement just dont expect to live out all your high performance dreams with one sound V8 cool though and go orright with work done to em a matew had one pulled sick burnouts all day, never died, went hard. looked like **** but it was choice anyway Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Like others said, the 253 is a nice engine and all, but really quiet gutless compared to todays engines. The Ecotec would run circles around it

Been there, done that... the Ecotec will have time to practice a few reverse parks before the 253 makes it up the strip. The Ecotec is a very torquey engine.

True to that Old Gold, i assumed we're talking about stock engines so... the other thing is if ya spent the same money on the Ecotec you could have it a **** load quicker.

My old VH 253 - 4 barrel, used to be pretty even with most stock VL's. Although it beats a stock VL in drinking more fuel and blowing more smoke every time tho... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

definitely the Ecotec V6... remember, the Ecotec uses less fuel as well, and it is 147kW the 253 is ~130kW I think, as much as pre-ecotec 3800's

Ive seen aworked 253 HQ (q ball :P ) beat a wrx at eastern creek on the way to running a mid 11. This thing lifted the front wheels. I know a guy who blew a Gen III 5.7 off the lights in his 253 Torana, even was admitted by the owner of the Commodore. I hate 253's but think that there's still alot of people out there working the tits off of them stuck in the dark ages. If we're talking stock, then an ecotec motor would anihilate the 253. Heavily modified: a 1.6 DOHC corolla motor could beat both of them if it had enough money thrown at it so it's a redundant argument. Lets clarify the argument, if you could spend 10k on 253 and 10k on Ecotec which would win and say what mods youd do to it? Let's include Rb30et in here to show where the real power is. Give you're estimated Power and Torque figures. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Ok well my estimate for a VS with 10 grand spent on t would be somewhere in the vacinity of 260kw at the flywheel. Thats with an intercooled Vortech, braided fuel lines off bosch motorsport pumps and higher flowing injectors. Maybe some head work and a cam. There is only so much work you can do to a 253. As for an RB30ET... well that would kill both for 10 grand spent on it.

i own a 253 atm, and have to agree that a ecotec v6 would win, as for Choice_Bro's q... for 10g.... rb30et would win easily, already has the turbo, and dont need to change alot (ie there already strong enough) to get enough power to beat the other 2. then I'd go the 253, do we have to leave them N/A? if not id definately be going the same as that twin turbo 253 that was for sale a while ago...anyone remember the hp it put out?? If left NA, the usual stuff, raise the compression, very lumpy cam, etc, for 7k one of the mags made a 300kw 253... The ecotec beats a 253 stock... but thats as far as it goes (IMHO) just cause of cubes.... Cory

I think an Ecotec V6 would most likely be able to keep up with an older 308, despite the fact the 308 would probably have more torque. in the RB30ET vs 253 vs Ecotec argument, well, I reckon the RB30 would probably beat them both http://nissanking.cjb.net/ R30 Skyline with a turbo RB30 in it, 323kW at the rears, pretty nice Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

An ECOTEC v6 would even whip a carby fed 308 in an equivalent sized car. Even the VN v6 is quicker off the mark than the olde red 308,that is even with a stock engine,I have been an a SV3800 HSV enhanced VN v6,it put out 200 kw at the flywheel,so these motors can also go like hell, makes the Tickford department look like a circus for its time, the later ECOTEC enhanced motors (supercharged v6) put out 250 KW at the flywheel.
