Pretending you're not a devoted Holden or Ford fan and can only see your particular make, which car do you think is better? Doesn't matter if you haven't driven it, just from the photos you've seen and reviews you've read, if money wasn't an issue and you could buy one or the other, what would it be?

To me the BA is a much nicer car. The holden has lines that conflict, like nice smoth VT style doors, and then this angular rear end, its not a good blend. Also every review that i have read, says the BA is a better car than the VY. Latest Wheels mag, compare nearly the entire range (XR6t -> SS, XR6 -> S, XT-> Exec, Fairmont Ghia -> Calais) And every review praised the BA.
The interior of the BA is much more refined, have alook at the center console cluster on both cars, and see what looks better, the VY seems to be crowded with buttons :/
Just my views and glad to be a ford man once again, instead of being ashamed when the AU was released :?

If I wanted a ute or an 8, deffinatly an Holden.
If it was a stock 6 on the other hand, I would go the ford, and of course an xr6 turbo beats the hell out of a supercharged 6.
Looking at it though, I would go a vx or au3 before either of them.....

^Mobil_HRT^ is on the money, but i would rather have any of the earlier model commodores over any ford or the VY.

hmmmm Don't like the new VY EXEC's, on the other hand the HSV's don't look too bad but they could have done better.
I'd rather go for the BA XR6turbo or the VY SS ute !
Conned a salesman into taking the XR6turbo for a test drive a coupla weeks ago !

following a VY today and had to ask myself what were the designers on when they designed the rear end? looks absolutly ****. bring on the next commodore hopefully with a gt42/45 turbo hangin of the side of it to make up for the VY

Outta curiosity, why would you go for the LS1 over the Boss Ford V8
more power, more potential in the ford... why?
I guess the LS1 has been around a few years here and in the US so performance parts are cheaper... still tho... if u werent gunna mod it?

11-11-02, 17:40 GMT+10#11 ya reckon when i saw em in the flesh i still thought they looked a bit dodgy
i mean still good but its hard when the original shell is so wierd, those curvy VT/X lines with that flat front and back, eeeeww
AV looks much more unified, but then I guess they changed everything cept the doors

12-11-02, 08:11 GMT+10#12 I guess its personal preference. I dont like the conflicting lines of the VY. And i think the HSV range is shocking, but like i said, its my personal opinion.

12-11-02, 13:45 GMT+10#13 I actually prefer the BA, more powerful, new design, looks sweet, especially the XR's, mmmm
however I guess each company does have their 'not so great' model. the VX is a nice car, but the VY looks a little weird, that back isn't great, front is OK though.

13-11-02, 08:25 GMT+10#14 Interesting to hear your thoughts, thanks for that. I tend to agree with most of the sentiments expressed here, with the BA having the edge over the VY. It does pay to remember, however, that the BA SHOULD be better than the VY. After all, the BA is basically a new car from the ground up, while the VY is a mid-model enhancement. Any car based on a 5 year old design SHOULD have trouble making the grade when placed next to a brand spanking design. I think the real test will come when Holden release the successor to the VZ, which is set to be a completely new car (unless the BA puts the wind up them and they scrap the VZ completely). By then, the BA design will be a few years old, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a complete reversal of what we're seeing here.
I say, good on Ford for getting a decent car together, and good on Holden for producing such good cars to date. With this new blood on the market, things can only get more interesting in the new few years to come.

13-11-02, 12:56 GMT+10#15 I did hear some one say that the BA is ment to me a mid model facelift. but about the onlythign to remain is the door skins :/

13-11-02, 23:03 GMT+10#16 apparently the BA is still based on the AU chassis

15-11-02, 10:20 GMT+10#17 Yes I believe that's the case, so perhaps from that point of view it could rate as a mid-model enhancement, but perhaps of greater proportions than we would normally consider for a MME. As you've said, basically all new panels, interior, engines, styling etc, new naming series. Will still be an interesting battle!

19-11-02, 05:52 GMT+10#19 Yeah the BA was MEANT to be a facelift model in the big Ford year planner but because the AU was so ****house they felt they had to fork out the money and give it a major redesign to make it look as different to the AU as they could, who can blame them
I think Ford has done a much better job freshening up the BA than Holden did with the VY - that is inexcusable really if Holden want to maintain their position of total dominance while they have much more money than Ford.
It doesn't matter anyway I think, people are going Holden crazy. It's like a mass-domestic rice fest; HRT/HSV/Holden merchandise everywhere, even in K-mart / target. It's pathetic and saddening to see so many morons who know absolutely nothing about cars saying "Holden are fullsickbro, Ford are absolutely ****house" without knowing anything about either. I wish I had a dollar for every 10 yr old I saw with a HSV hat and chicks with HRT tops on...
Reminds me of an incident in a pub, a mate of mine was trying to tune this barmaid for another friend, and was telling her about his very nice XA GT coupe... she was going along with it, saying yeah, that sounds nice until the word "Falcon" came up... at which point she said "Nah that's ****, it's a Ford, has to be a Holden or a Nissan Skyline!" very matter of factly. We shat ourselves laughing at her, then it turned out she was 15 which made her stupidity even more funny anyone who thinks an XA or a GT is a holden, well, it's hard to take their opinion seriously
jeeez just goes to show whats goin on in these peoples minds
In a nutshell, Ford need a better advertising face.

Soooo true. They need to stop their "band-aid" approach, and seriously look at the long term.
